LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Georgia Berry upon the occasion of
winning the 2015 Youth Art Month New York State Flag Design Competition

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend and pay
tribute to the youth of today and leaders of tomorrow whose character
and achievements best exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this
great State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, It is also the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize
the dedication and commitment of our young people who, by achieving
outstanding success in their endeavors, have inspired and brought pride
to our majestic Empire State, and who distinguish themselves in competi-
tion through excellence and accomplishment; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Georgia Berry upon the occasion of winning the 2015 Youth Art Month
New York State Flag Design Competition; and
WHEREAS, Youth Art Month is an annual observance each March to empha-
size the value of art education for all children and to encourage
support for quality school art programs; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1961 by the Art and Craft Materials Institute
(ACMI) in cooperation with the NAEA, the program is administered by the
Council for Art Education (CAE) and focuses on the value of art educa-
tion which develops divergent and critical thinking skills, multicul-
tural awareness, as well as technical, communication and expressive
skills; and
WHEREAS, To promote Youth Art Month, the CAE coordinates the State
Flag Program in which each state organizes a flag design contest, with
the winning design made into a flag for display at its National Conven-
tion; and
WHEREAS, The daughter of Ian and Monica Berry, Georgia Berry is an
eighth grade student at Maple Avenue Middle School in Saratoga Springs,
New York; and
WHEREAS, Currently on the high honor roll, Georgia Berry is enrolled
in several honors courses including, Earth Science, ELA, Social Studies,
Algebra, and Technology, and is a member of the Junior Varsity Crew
Team; and
WHEREAS, Georgia Berry's flag design was selected to represent New
York State at the 2015 National Art Educators Conference which runs from
March 26-28, 2015, at the New Orleans Convention Center and Hilton New
Orleans Riverside; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to wish Georgia Berry continued success throughout her
school years and beyond; and
WHEREAS, Georgia Berry, in achieving this high honor, may take just
pride in the inspiration and contribution to the spirit of excellence
she brings to her family, friends, community and school, Maple Avenue
Middle School; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Georgia Berry upon the occasion of winning the 2015 Youth
Art Month New York State Flag Design Competition; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Georgia Berry.
