LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Barbara Lynne Nelson upon the occasion
of her designation as recipient of the Troy Treasure Award by the Troy
Rehabilitation and Improvement Program and Rensselaer County Housing
Resources
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Barbara Lynne Nelson upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the Troy Treasure Award by the Troy Rehabilitation and Improvement
Program (TRIP) and Rensselaer County Housing Resources (RCHR) at the
TRIP and RCHR Homecoming Dinner on Monday, October 27, 2014, at the
Franklin Terrace Ballroom in Troy, New York; and
WHEREAS, The mission of TRIP and RCHR is to connect individuals and
families with resources and knowledge to live in desirable homes and
create vibrant sustainable communities; and
WHEREAS, Since its inception in 1968, TRIP has rehabbed more than 300
units in over 128 buildings; it owns and/or manages more than 220 units
of rental housing in the City of Troy, and has developed and sold homes
to more than 85 first-time home buyers; and
WHEREAS, Since 1998, RCHR has helped over 100 families purchase homes
and assisted over 1500 households through its mini-repair program; and
WHEREAS, Barbara Lynne Nelson has a Bachelor of Architecture and a
Bachelor of Science degree in the building sciences from Rensselaer
Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, New York, with transfer study in
Architecture and Liberal Arts from the University of California Berke-
ley; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed woman has been a registered architect in New
York State since 1983, and has worked for RPI's Department of Campus
Planning and Facilities Design, serving as campus planner, Architect and
Capital Project Manager since 1992; and
WHEREAS, In 2012, Barbara Lynne Nelson became Chair of the City of
Troy Planning Commission where she has provided outstanding guidance and
expertise; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Barbara Lynne Nelson has been a leader of the
Alley Project and Up Your Alley in Troy; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the dedication to her community which Barbara
Lynne Nelson has shown throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Barbara Lynne Nelson upon the occasion of her designation as
recipient of the Troy Treasure Award by the Troy Rehabilitation and
Improvement Program and Rensselaer County Housing Resources; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Barbara Lynne Nelson.
