LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the South Country Ambulance Company
upon the occasion of celebrating its 75th Anniversary
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to organizations within the State of New York which provide
vital emergency medical rescue services; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the South Country Ambulance Corps upon the occasion of its 75th Anniver-
sary, to be celebrated at its Annual Installation of Officers Dinner, on
Saturday, May 16, 2015, at East Wind Caterers, Wading River, New York;
and
WHEREAS, The South Country Ambulance Company is a New York State
Advanced Life Support certified volunteer ambulance company which is
credentialed at the Paramedic level; and
WHEREAS, Since July of 1940, the South Country Ambulance Company has
responded to medical emergencies 24 hours a day, seven days a week; in
its first year of service, the members of the unit responded to 64
alarms; and
WHEREAS, Today, the South Country Ambulance Company has grown to
include 126 members and 17 emergency vehicles; to date, the Company
responds to 2,600 calls per year; and
WHEREAS, The South Country Ambulance Company provides service to
several communities, including Bellport Village, North Bellport, East
Patchogue, Brookhaven, South Haven, and South Yaphank; and
WHEREAS, The South Country Ambulance Company also offers mutual aid to
Patchogue, Medford, Yaphank, Shirley, Mastic, and Mastic Beach, and is
responsible for all 911 medical calls in the South Country Ambulance
District; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, the South Country Ambulance Company's Marine
Bureau provides services to both Patchogue and Bellport Bay, and
conducts patrols of the National Wildlife Refuge and Fire Island
National Sea Shore; and
WHEREAS, The Search and Rescue Squad watches over 1,500 acres of coun-
ty parks and federal wilderness areas located within the district; they
also offer bike teams to many large scale, local, and countrywide
events; and
WHEREAS, On the tragic morning of September 11, 2001, the South Coun-
try Ambulance Company dispatched mutual aid to New York Presbyterian
EMS, and were deployed to Ground Zero, where they remained on duty for
three days; and
WHEREAS, Active in the community, the South Country Ambulance Company
has received both the New York State and Suffolk County Service Award
for the past six years; and
WHEREAS, Access to quality emergency care dramatically improves the
survival and recovery rate of those who experience sudden illness or
injury; throughout the 75-year history of the South Country Ambulance
Company, the members have worked tirelessly to bring the best quality of
care to the residents of Brookhaven, New York, and its surrounding
communities; and
WHEREAS, The South Country Ambulance Company has proudly provided
Emergency Medical Services to the community for 75 years; from the days
of simple First Aid in the back of an ambulance to the most modern
sophistication of today's Advanced Life Support, this extraordinary
organization responds to calls for EMS assistance whenever needed; and
WHEREAS, All members of the South Country Ambulance Company, past and
present, merit the highest commendation for their contributions to the
noble missions of this life-saving organization; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the South Country Ambulance Company upon the occasion of cele-
brating its 75th Anniversary; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the South Country Ambulance Company.
