LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Salvatore F. Girgenti upon the occasion
of his designation for special recognition by the Kings County American
Legion on April 12, 2015

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Salvatore F. Girgenti has given not only of his time and
energies but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and
consequently has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Salvatore F.
Girgenti upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition by
the Kings County American Legion, to be celebrated at its Annual Base-
ball Banquet Dinner and Journal on Sunday, April 12, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Salvatore F. Girgenti has been called upon to contribute his
time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Brooklyn, New York, Salvatore F.
Girgenti served his country with distinction as a member of the United
States Air Force Reserves 106th Air Rescue Unit, during which time he
learned the value of hard work, dedication and perseverance; and
WHEREAS, Upon his discharge from the reserves, Salvatore F. Girgenti
returned home to his family in Dyker Heights where he joined his father
in the family business of selling real estate; and
WHEREAS, Today, Salvatore F. Girgenti continues to own and operate Ben
Bay Realty Co., which is in its 61st year of operation; this once small
family business has grown to include two more locations, Ben Bay Realty
Co. of Bay Ridge and Ben Bay Realty Co. of Marine Park; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to society, Salvatore F. Girgenti's charitable
contributions began in the early 1980s when he made an appearance on the
renowned Jerry Lewis Telethon to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Associ-
ation; he has also been a longtime supporter of the St. Jude Children's
Research Hospital and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center; and
WHEREAS, Active within his community, Salvatore F. Girgenti is an avid
supporter of such local charities as Pietro's Fight and Frankie's
Mission, receiving a Certificate of Merit on behalf of Frankie's Mission
in recognition of his steadfast support in the fight against pediatric
cancer; and
WHEREAS, With an unwavering commitment to the Brooklyn community as
well as his Italian Heritage, Salvatore F. Girgenti was honored with the
Distinguished Italian-American Award from the Federation of Italian-Am-
erican Organizations in 2008; and
WHEREAS, Salvatore F. Girgenti has served as a Community Board 10
Member and has been a long-standing member of the Kiwanis Club; he
received the Kiwanian of the Year Award in 2012, and became an Anton J.
Kaiser Foundation Fellow in 2014; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Salvatore F. Girgenti proudly supports the Amer-
ican Legion Baseball League and has participated in countless golf char-
ity events; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Salvatore F. Girgenti has stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his loving wife, Celeste, their
three beautiful daughters, Jeanine, Diana and Christina, and their four
amazing grandchildren, Justin, Ava, Henry and Zachary, all of whom feel
privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Salvatore F. Girgenti has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Salvatore F. Girgenti upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition by the Kings County American Legion on April 12,
2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Salvatore F. Girgenti.
