LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring the New York Road Runners Organization
for special recognition and upon the occasion of the successful organ-
ization of both the Uptown Games and the famous New York City Marathon

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those organizations within our midst who have
made significant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor the
New York Road Runners Organization for special recognition and upon the
occasion of the successful organization of both the Uptown Games and the
famous New York City Marathon; and
WHEREAS, Known as the premier road running organization in the world,
the New York Road Runners has been a driving force for health and
fitness, contributing greatly to the City and State of New York; and
WHEREAS, The New York Road Runners, with its mission of encouraging
New Yorkers to run, arranges many annual athletic events, including the
famed New York City Marathon; the group is also dedicated to educating
and motivating hundreds of thousands of students from New York, through
programs such as "Young Runners," "Mighty Milers" and their youth jambo-
rees, which promote physical fitness, character development and personal
achievement in underserved communities; and
WHEREAS, The New York Road Runners Organization holds its annual
"Uptown Games" event, this year held March 28, 2015, a track and field
training exercise for students of upper Manhattan, an area suffering
from an above average childhood obesity rate, to teach the fun and
importance of exercise and healthy living, in conjunction with schools
in the community; and
WHEREAS, The New York Road Runners have touched the lives of so many
New Yorkers and athletes across America by providing a reason to run,
and helping them to achieve their dreams; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when an organ-
ization of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion it is appropriate to publicly proclaim and commend those individ-
uals for the edification and emulation of others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the New York Road Runners Organization for special recogntion and
upon the occasion of the successful organization of both the Uptown
Games and the famous New York City Marathon; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the New York Road Runners Organization.
