LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Bruce Baldwin, distin-
guished citizen and devoted member of his community
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Bruce Baldwin of New Lebanon, New York, died on March 9,
2015, at the age of 73; and
WHEREAS, Bruce Baldwin was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on December
2, 1941, and graduated from Mound High School in 1959; and
WHEREAS, After completing high school, Bruce Baldwin proudly served
his country as a member of the United States Army, and later graduated
from Saint Cloud University; and
WHEREAS, Bruce Baldwin taught English and Theater at Lenox High School
in the early 1970s, before opening Baldwin Foreign Auto Repair in New
Lebanon where he became well-known for repairing Volvos and Saabs; and
WHEREAS, In 1997, Bruce Baldwin became an automotive teacher for Ques-
tar III Board of Cooperative Educational Services; he provided outstand-
ing instruction for three decades until his retirement in 2007, after
which time, he remained a valued substitute teacher in the district for
several years; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable man's commitment to excellence, and his spir-
it of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including
charitable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, A vital member of his community, Bruce Baldwin directed
performances by the Valley Players, a theater group in New Lebanon which
raised funds for the benefit of the local high school; he also served as
a volunteer EMT with the Lebanon Valley Protective Association, and was
an active member of the Lebanon Valley Historical Society; and
WHEREAS, With a sense of civic responsibility, Bruce Baldwin became
involved in politics, serving as the Supervisor of the Town of New Leba-
non from 1988 to 1995; he was serving as a member of the Town Board at
the time of his death, a position he held since 2007; and
WHEREAS, Bruce Baldwin also oversaw the reconstruction of the New
Lebanon Town Hall, using his mechanical and handyman skills to perform
much of the work himself; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by his parents, Wilbur and Vivien Baldwin and his
brothers, Allen, David, and Robert, Bruce Baldwin is survived by his
wife of 32 years, Jeannine; two daughters, Jessica (Anthony) and Nikki
(Hector); two step-daughters, Gretel (Justin) and Barnet (Mitchell); and
six grandchildren, Oren, Jonas, Ethan, Benjamin, Evelyn, Sagan; as well
as his sister, Joyce (Ed); and several nieces and nephews; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Bruce Baldwin leaves behind a legacy which will long endure
the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all he
served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Bruce Baldwin, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Bruce Baldwin.
