LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Police Chief Mike Williams upon the
occasion of his retirement after 35 years of distinguished service to
the Hamburg Police Department

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished officers and citizens who would devote them-
selves to public service, demonstrating great courage and diligence in
providing for the care and welfare of the citizens of their communities
and this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their exem-
plary contributions and service on behalf of others; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Police Chief
Mike Williams upon the occasion of his retirement after 35 years of
distinguished service to the Hamburg Police Department; he will offi-
cially retire at the end of March 2015; and
WHEREAS, Born into a police force family, Mike Williams joined the
Hamburg Police Department in 1980; changes in procedure, equipment, and
technology have been prevalent throughout his illustrious career as he
moved up the ranks of his department; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure, Police Chief Mike Williams has
performed every job on the force, which allowed him to be a compassion-
ate leader of a 62-member squad; and
WHEREAS, A remarkable public servant who treasures the camaraderie of
his department, Police Chief Mike Williams appreciates nothing more than
the lives he has touched and saved, including his most notable moment
helping to save an individual's life from a house fire in 1997; and
WHEREAS, Police Chief Mike Williams' people-first philosophy was
continuous; as Police Chief, community members often approached him to
voice their opinions and ask for advice; and
WHEREAS, Active in his community as well as his profession, Police
Chief Mike Williams has for many years been involved with the Special
Olympics, volunteering his time and energies to this vital organization;
and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those dedicated
public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the preservation
of order and the protection of others are worthy and due full praise for
their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Police Chief Mike Williams upon the occasion of his retirement
after 35 years of distinguished service to the Hamburg Police Depart-
ment; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Police Chief Mike Williams.
