LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Duane Waid upon the occasion of his
retirement after many years of distinguished public service to the Town
of Covert

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and honor
those distinguished citizens who demonstrate great courage and diligence
in providing for the care and welfare of the citizens of their communi-
ties and this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their exem-
plary contributions and service on behalf of others; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Duane Waid upon the occasion of his retirement after many years of
distinguished public service to the Town of Covert, to be celebrated
during the year end Town Meeting on Monday, December 29, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Duane Waid moved to Interlaken from Angelica in the early
1950s when he and his wife, Wanda, purchased the local newspaper, THE
INTERLAKEN REVIEW, and the local print shop; while publishing a series
of articles, he became interested in beekeeping, and after selling the
newspaper, he expanded his hobby to what became a full time business;
and
WHEREAS, For more than three decades, Duane Waid's bees have provided
pollination services to orchards throughout the Finger Lakes and to the
apple orchards along Lake Ontario; his honey can be found within the
retail stores throughout the Finger Lakes area and beyond; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, he is recognized by both the local and state
Beekeepers Associations as an expert in the field, and has written many
articles and given many seminars and classes on the art of beekeeping;
and
WHEREAS, Duane Waid was first elected to the Town of Covert board in
1958, taking office on January 1, 1959; he has served on the board for a
total of 25 years in the capacity of Chairman of the Personnel Commit-
tee, the board's expert on insurance matters and a member of the Assess-
ment Committee; and
WHEREAS, Active within the community he so ably serves, Duane Waid was
a longtime member of the Interlaken Fire Department, the Community
Action Group and the Interlaken Historical Society; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Wanda, and their
three children, Craig, Roxanne, and Jerry, all of whom feel privileged
to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in this Nation, and in the
great State of New York, is reflective of the purposeful lives and good
works of those civic-minded community members who dedicate their lives
and careers to the service of others; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Duane Waid upon the occasion of his retirement after many years of
distinguished public service to the Town of Covert; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Duane Waid.
