LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Kathryn Zox upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Straight But Not Narrow Award by the
Pride Center of the Capital Region
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Kathryn Zox has given not only of her time and energies but
also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Kathryn Zox upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
Straight But Not Narrow Award by the Pride Center of the Capital Region
which was celebrated at its Annual Gala on Friday, October 24, 2014, at
Hilton Albany in Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Pride Center of the Capital Region is dedicated to serv-
ing the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community in the
Capital Region; since 1970, the Center has been meeting the diverse
needs of LGBT individuals; and
WHEREAS, Kathryn Zox has been called upon to contribute her time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of The New School of Radio and Television, Kathryn
Zox earned a master's degree in Social Work from the State University of
New York at Albany (SUNY Albany); she is the creator of SUNY Albany's
"The Social Workers" radio talk show, which she has produced and hosted
for the last four years; and
WHEREAS, Kathryn Zox has interviewed several world-renowned guests
including NEW YORK TIMES best-selling authors, experts, and celebrities
concerning relevant issues such as healthcare, LGBT and women's issues,
diversity, bullying, and aging; her personal and topic driven shows have
been ranked the No. 1 listened to radio show on the VoiceAmerica Women's
Network; and
WHEREAS, Active in her community, Kathryn Zox has volunteered her time
and energies to numerous charitable causes including the Human Rights
Campaign, Pride Center of the Capital Region, Jewish Federation of
Northeastern New York, Ronald McDonald House, Planned Parenthood, and
the New York State School Music Association, just to name a few; and
WHEREAS, Kathryn Zox has trained doctors and medical students at Alba-
ny Medical College's Clinical Competency Program on effective doctor
patient communication; she also served as lead trainer for the Center
for Organ Donation and Transplant, New York State Police, Albany Law
School, New York State Department of Education, and numerous Fortune 500
companies; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, this remarkable woman is a proud member of the
Community Advisory Board for WMHT Public Television, past vice president
of the Board of Trustees at SUNY Hillel, and serves on the Women's
Philanthropy Board of the United Jewish Federation of Northeastern New
York; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Kathryn Zox has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Kathryn Zox has displayed throughout
her life; and
WHEREAS, Our society is greatly benefited by the purposeful efforts of
individuals who unite for the cause of improving the quality of life for
others, and who proactively work toward the goal of dignity for all;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Kathryn Zox upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Straight But Not Narrow Award by the Pride Center of the Capital
Region; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Kathryn Zox.
