LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring the Austin family upon the occasion of
their designation as recipient of the Quality of Life Award by Family
Services on April 23, 2015
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those individ-
uals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the community and its
citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor the
Austin family upon the occasion of their designation as recipient of the
Quality of Life Award by Family Services, to be celebrated at its Annual
Family of the Year Award Dinner on Thursday, April 23, 2015, at the
Grandview, Poughkeepsie, New York; and
WHEREAS, For the past 28 years, Family Services annually hosts the
Family of the Year Award Dinner to commend individuals and families who
have made significant contributions to the community and whose ideals
reflect those of Family Services by providing hope, improving lives and
strengthening the community; and
WHEREAS, The Austin family has been called upon to contribute their
time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and have
always given of themselves unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, A true entrepreneur, Bill Austin is CEO of several Gold's Gym
franchises, including the LaGrange, New York location which hosts summer
camps for hundreds of children and is the site of sports practices for
hundreds more on their indoor soccer fields; and
WHEREAS, With a steadfast commitment to helping people live healthier
lives, Bill Austin began his illustrious career as a Teacher in the City
of Poughkeepsie, and then as an Instructor and Coach at Marist College;
and
WHEREAS, Jane Austin spent her career as a Kindergarten Teacher in the
City of Poughkeepsie School District; she has served as Board Chair of
many local organizations such as the Poughkeepsie Garden Club, Meals on
Wheels, and the Catharine Street Center; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Jane Austin has been a Board Member and Officer
of the Pleasant Valley Lions and Bellefield Gardens; and
WHEREAS, Bill Austin and Jane Austin, have generously supported many
community organizations such as Family Services and Juvenile Diabetes;
and
WHEREAS, Bill and Jane Austin's two children, Kim and Bill, have
followed in their parents' footsteps, giving of their time and energies
to several organizations; and
WHEREAS, Kim was recognized in the Chamber of Commerce's 40 Under 40
Awards and is also a Board Member of "Go Red"; she and her husband Dave
have two beautiful children, Austin and Kyra; Bill is also an entrepre-
neur in New York City, and has raised funds for many charities through
various sporting events; he and his wife, Becky, have a daughter,
Beatrice; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of their community service, a
period of constructive involvement, the Austin family has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, The Austin family has continually demonstrated extreme compe-
tence, extraordinary intelligence and diligent leadership in their
unwavering service to their community; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which the Austin family has displayed through-
out their lives; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the Austin family upon the occasion of their designation as recip-
ient of the Quality of Life Award by Family Services on April 23, 2015;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Austin family.
