LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Harold and Elayne Seaman upon the occa-
sion of their designation as recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award
from Family Services on April 23, 2015
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those individ-
uals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the community and its
citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Harold and Elayne Seaman upon the occasion of their designation as
recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from Family Services, to be
celebrated at its Annual Family of the Year Award Dinner on Thursday,
April 23, 2015, at the Grandview, Poughkeepsie, New York; and
WHEREAS, For the past 28 years, Family Services annually hosts the
Family of the Year Award Dinner to commend individuals and families who
have made significant contributions to the community and whose ideals
reflect those of Family Services by providing hope, improving lives and
strengthening the community; and
WHEREAS, Married for 65 years, Harold and Elayne Seaman will receive
this auspicious award for their tireless dedication to enhance the qual-
ity of life in their community; they have been called upon to contribute
their time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and
have always given of themselves unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, An accomplished painter, Elayne Seaman is well known through-
out the Hudson Valley and beyond; she has served as Executive Director
of the Mid-Hudson and Science Center, a Consultant to the Dutchess Coun-
ty Council, and Coordinator for the DCAC Fine Art Exhibit at the City of
Poughkeepsie Armory; and
WHEREAS, In addition, she served as Program Coordinator, working with
the Dutchess County Historian's Office for the Bicentennial of the
Ratification of the Constitution, and has worked as a Consultant with a
variety of nonprofit organizations on public relations, fundraising,
programs and special events; and
WHEREAS, Harold Seaman, affectionately known as Hal, is the Past Pres-
ident of the Gillespie Forum, and with his wife, was a founding member
of the Hudson Valley Chapter of the World Affairs Council; they were
also active in the PTA, serving as co-Presidents of the Poughkeepsie
Middle School Parents and Teachers Association for the first two years
of the school's creation; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of their community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Harold and Elayne Seaman have stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed couple have been steadfast supporters of the
Mill Street Loft and the Community Foundation of Dutchess County through
which they established the Claudia Ann Seaman Awards for Young Writers,
in honor of their late daughter; and
WHEREAS, In 2004, Elayne Seaman received the Marist College Presi-
dent's Award for Community Service, and one year later she was recipient
of the Mill Street Loft's Friend of the Arts Award; both Elayne and
Harold Seaman received the Eleanor Roosevelt Val-Kill Medal in 2005; and
WHEREAS, Harold and Elayne Seaman have continually demonstrated
extreme competence, extraordinary intelligence and diligent leadership
in their unwavering service to their community; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which Harold and Elayne Seaman have displayed
throughout their lives; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Harold and Elayne Seaman upon the occasion of their designation as
recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from Family Services on
April 23, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Harold and Elayne Seaman.
