LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Florence Friedberg, distin-
guished citizen and devoted member of her community
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Florence Friedberg died on Friday, December 26, 2014, at the
age of 90; and
WHEREAS, Born in New York City on May 4, 1924, to Betty and Samuel
Schick, Florence Friedberg graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School
in 1942; and
WHEREAS, A devoted mother and wife whose greatest priority was love,
Florence Friedberg was an active member of Temple B'nai Israel in
Elmont, New York; she also enjoyed painting and volunteering at various
charities; and
WHEREAS, Florence Friedberg distinguished herself by her sincere dedi-
cation and substantial contribution to the welfare of her community; and
WHEREAS, Along with her husband Barry, she was engaged in a variety of
philanthropic projects both in Nassau County, New York and Boca Raton,
Florida; and
WHEREAS, Florence Friedberg's commitment to excellence, and her spirit
of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including char-
itable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Few people will ever have as much impact as Florence Fried-
berg has had on her community; her warmth and grace coupled with Barry's
generous spirit led to the creation of the Barry and Florence Friedberg
JCC, the first and only full service Jewish Community Center on the
South Shore of Long island; and
WHEREAS, All of the strength and good brought to the community by the
Barry and Florence Friedberg Jewish Community Center, located in Ocean-
side, New York, stemmed from the hearts of this giving couple whose
names have always been and will always be synonymous with the JCC; and
WHEREAS, Florence Friedberg is survived by her loving husband of 72
years, Barry; her devoted children, Diane (Marc) and Richard (Courte-
nay); her grandchildren, Michelle, Joseph, Sarah (Max), and Hannah
(David); a great-grandchild, Genevieve; and her sister, Beatrice; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit, imbued with a sense of
compassion, and comforted by a loving family, Florence Friedberg leaves
behind a legacy which will long endure the passage of time and will
remain as a comforting memory to all she served and befriended; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Florence Friedberg, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of her community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Florence Friedberg.
