LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Wantagh and Seaford Kiwanis upon
the occasion of celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Kiwanis Interna-
tional
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those fraternal organizations of high purpose and worthy
accomplishment whose endeavors have faithfully served the welfare of the
citizens of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the Wantagh and Seaford Kiwanis upon the occasion of celebrating the
100th Anniversary of Kiwanis International; and
WHEREAS, Kiwanis International is a global organization of volunteers
dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time;
and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1915, in Detroit, Michigan, Kiwanis International
grew from a single chapter focused on business networking, into one of
the world's premier international service organizations; and
WHEREAS, The six permanent objects of Kiwanis International are to:
give primacy to the human and spiritual rather than to the material
values of life; encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all
human relationships; promote the adoption and the application of higher
social, business, and professional standards; develop, by precept and
example, a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship;
provide, through Kiwanis clubs, a practical means to form enduring
friendships, to render altruistic service, and to build better communi-
ties; and cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opin-
ion and high idealism which make possible the increase of righteousness,
justice, patriotism, and goodwill; and
WHEREAS, Kiwanis International places special emphasis on service to
children and youth; the organization's international initiatives are
intended to improve the quality of life of children through activities
which promote health and education; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, the Kiwanis service leadership programs, which
include Kiwanis Kids, Builders Club, and Key Club, comprise approximate-
ly 7,000 youth clubs worldwide, with more than 343,000 youth members;
and
WHEREAS, In 2010, Kiwanis International joined with UNICEF to launch a
new health initiative, the Eliminate Project, dedicated to wiping out
maternal and neonatal tetanus, which kills more than 100,000 babies
worldwide each year; and
WHEREAS, Today, Kiwanis and Kiwanis affiliated groups, such as Key
Club, CKI, and Aktion Club, donate more than 18 million hours of service
each year and raise significant donations for charitable funds annually;
and
WHEREAS, In conjunction with International Kiwanis' Centennial Anni-
versary, the Wantagh Kiwanis will celebrate 60 years of service to its
community; and
WHEREAS, Organizations of singular distinction such as the Wantagh and
Seaford Kiwanis Clubs provide a model for enhancing the quality of life
in the community and, as such, merit the grateful praise of the communi-
ty of the State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Wantagh and Seaford Kiwanis Club upon the occasion of cele-
brating the 100th Anniversary of Kiwanis International; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to President Heidi Felix, Wantagh Kiwanis Club, and President
Steven Katz, Seaford Kiwanis Club.
