LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Louis Varricchio upon the occasion of
his designation for special recognition by the Oyster Bay Lions Club on
April 26, 2015

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Louis Varric-
chio upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition by the
Oyster Bay Lions Club to be celebrated at its 10th Annual Spring Benefit
on Sunday, April 26, 2015, at the Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club,
Centre Island, New York; and
WHEREAS, Lions Club International is dedicated to being a global lead-
er in both community and humanitarian service, empowering volunteers to
serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and
promote international understanding through Lions clubs; and
WHEREAS, For over 65 years, the Oyster Bay Lions Club has served the
needs of its community, supporting Guide Dogs for the Blind, Lions Eye
Bank for Long Island, and numerous other vital local causes; and
WHEREAS, Born and raised in Oyster Bay, Louis Varricchio is a graduate
of Oyster Bay High School, and later attended Farmingdale College where
he studied Controls For Heating; and
WHEREAS, For two years, Louis Varricchio proudly served his country as
a member of the United States Air Force; after his service to the mili-
tary, he worked in the family plumbing business; and
WHEREAS, In 1953, Louis Varricchio married the former Theresa Curcio,
and together they raised two daughters, Vincinza and Maria; and
WHEREAS, In 1959, Louis Varricchio started his own business, General
Utilities; in 1964, he hired a partner, and also took over the family
plumbing business; after 15 years of distinguished service, Louis sold
his portion of General Utilities to his partner; and
WHEREAS, In 2012, Louis Varricchio retired and sold the family plumb-
ing business, which is still in operation today as Varricchio Plumbing;
and
WHEREAS, For 50 years, Louis Varricchio has been a valued member of
the Oyster Bay Lions Club, and continues to generously support his
community with passion, honor and pride; during this time, he was the
recipient of the prestigious Robert Uplinger Award; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Louis Varricchio has been a member of the Ameri-
can Legion for 62 years, as well as a member of the American-Italian
Club, Italian Mutual Aide Society, and the Knights of Columbus; and
WHEREAS, Together, Louis Varricchio and his wife, Theresa, enjoy trav-
eling and gardening; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his wife and two daughters, Louis Varricchio
is the proud grandfather of two grandchildren, all of whom feel privi-
leged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Louis Varricchio upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the Oyster Bay Lions Club on April 26, 2015; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Louis Varricchio.
