LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Ruth Theresa Harbeck upon the
occasion of celebrating her 100th Birthday
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Ruth
Theresa Harbeck upon the occasion of her 100th Birthday to be celebrated
with a party held in her honor with many family members and friends in
attendance on Sunday, April 12, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Ruth Theresa Harbeck was born on April 3, 1915, in Albany,
New York; and
WHEREAS, Ruth Theresa Harbeck attended No. 5 in Albany, before gradu-
ating from Albany High School in 1934, where she played violin in the
choir; and
WHEREAS, After graduating she worked at DeWitt Clinton in the tele-
graph office of the Hotel before pursuing her career at the Legislative
Index Company in Albany in 1954, before retiring in 1984, as a Stenogra-
pher; and
WHEREAS, Today, this remarkable woman is a communicant of the Bethle-
hem Lutheran Church and a former member of St. Paul's Church in Albany,
where she participated in the choir and designed the church newsletter
for the public; and
WHEREAS, A dedicated member of her community, Ruth Theresa Harbeck
volunteered at the Elsmere School in Albany, registering voters for
election day, and volunteering at the Tri-Village Little League conces-
sion's stand; and
WHEREAS, Ruth Theresa Harbeck enjoys sewing, gardening, fishing, camp-
ing, traveling, and sightseeing; and
WHEREAS, On August 5, 1939, Ruth married Howard Harbeck; today, she is
the proud mother of two sons, Howard, Jr. and Kerry, and the loving
grandmother of three grandchildren, Michael, Garrett, and Jason, and
seven great-grandchildren, Stephen, Holly, Logan, Angela, Jaeden, Gavin,
and Chase; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian, with her zest for life, has
inspired and enhanced the lives of her family and friends; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished woman has experienced the incredible joys
and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the stamina
and courage to savor a full life; and
WHEREAS, This beloved woman has enriched the lives of those around her
through her joyous and sincere love for others and through the quiescent
charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have witnessed
and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and awesome
achievements of this country during the last century, while themselves
contributing to the growth and excellence of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Ruth Theresa Harbeck upon the occasion of celebrating her
100th Birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Ruth Theresa Harbeck.
