LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Peggy Parker upon the occasion of her
retirement after 30 years of distinguished service to the Perry Public
Library
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those individuals
whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to enhance the stat-
ure of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Peggy Parker upon the occasion of her retirement after 30 years of
distinguished service to the Perry Public Library; and
WHEREAS, For the past three decades, Peggy Parker rendered faithful,
conscientious and valuable service to the Perry Public Library; and
WHEREAS, Peggy Parker is the Perry Public Library's longest serving
Director, and has dedicated her life to serving the community; she is a
compassionate mentor and tireless advocate for the library and its
staff; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of Perry High School in 1967, Peggy Parker worked
at libraries in Bangor, Maine, Lynchburg, Virginia, and Ann Arbor,
Michigan, before earning her master's degree in Library Science from the
University of Michigan; and
WHEREAS, Upon returning to her hometown in 1985, Peggy Parker started
her career with the Perry Public Library and shortly thereafter, assumed
the position of Director; and
WHEREAS, An innovator in her field, Peggy Parker presented and raised
funds for the early Winnebago automation system in Wyoming County; she
also has managed the Perry Public Library's second automation, as well
as further updates to its systems over the years; and
WHEREAS, In addition, this esteemed woman was a founding member of
Friends of the Perry Public Library and the Tale for Three Counties, and
helped the library improve its parking lot facilities; and
WHEREAS, During her tenure with Perry Public Library, Peggy Parker
served with professionalism and distinction; she has earned the admira-
tion, esteem and affection of her colleagues; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Peggy Parker upon the occasion of her retirement after 30 years of
distinguished service to the Perry Public Library; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Peggy Parker.
