LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Anne Nikas-Brigis upon the occasion of
her designation as a 2015 Long Island Center for Business and Profes-
sional Women Achiever

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
outstanding individuals who distinguish themselves through their excep-
tional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the highest
level of personal achievement; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Anne
Nikas-Brigis upon the occasion of her designation as a 2015 Long Island
Center for Business and Professional Women Achiever; this auspicious
occasion will be celebrated at the Center's 36th Annual Achievers'
Awards Gala, to be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2015; and
WHEREAS, For more than 35 years, the Long Island Center for Business
and Professional Women has been dedicated to advancing women in busi-
ness, industry and the professions; and
WHEREAS, The Long Island Center for Business and Professional Women
celebrates and honors women who are leaders, mentors and who have opened
doors for other women to help foster their rise in business, the
professions and in their community; Anne Nikas-Brigis is one such indi-
vidual; and
WHEREAS, As a youth, Anne Nikas-Brigis volunteered her time and ener-
gies to her local home town at the Flushing YMCA; upon graduation, she
embarked on a successful career on Madison Avenue in New York City, but
her love and passion of helping others brought her back to the Flushing
YMCA; and
WHEREAS, After seven years of dedicated service at the Flushing YMCA,
Anne Nikas-Brigis accepted a position as Associate Executive Director of
the Great South Bay Branch; she quickly rose through the ranks and was
appointed Executive Director; excitement, accomplishment, and change
categorized those first few years; and
WHEREAS, Shortly after, Anne Nikas-Brigis was promoted to Vice Presi-
dent of South Shore Operations, and her responsibilities grew to include
the Brookhaven Roe and East Hampton Branches; and
WHEREAS, In 2003, Anne Nikas-Brigis continued her rise by becoming the
Senior Vice President, Branch Operations, supervising all Branch oper-
ations; in 2010, she was promoted to Executive Vice President and Chief
Operating Officer; and
WHEREAS, In 2012, Anne Nikas-Brigis achieved her dream of becoming
President/CEO of The YMCA of Long Island, where she continues to flour-
ish today; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her illustrious career with the YMCA, Anne Nikas-
Brigis' commitment to excellence and her strategic vision has played a
significant role in the expansion and succession of the YMCA of Long
Island; in 1994, she brought the Great South Bay YMCA Branch from a
one-million dollar operating budget to ten million in 2012; as a result,
the Great South Bay facility became the largest of the YMCA Long Island
Branch locations with a membership of over 15,000, including 500 chil-
dren a day enrolled in some form of Child Care; and
WHEREAS, Anne Nikas-Brigis has been the recipient of numerous awards
and accolades for her exemplary leadership including the Outstanding
Service and Leadership Achievement Award by the Association of YMCA
Directors, the Save a Child Award by the Rotary Gift of Life, and the

Top Women of 2007 Award by Long Island Business News; in 2010, she was
unanimously selected as Ambassador of the Arts for the Great South Bay
Boulton Center for the Performing Arts; and
WHEREAS, Active in her community as well as her profession, Ann
Nikas-Brigis is a member of the YNAN Steering Committee, and the New
York State Alliance and the YMCA Employee Benefits Board; she also
serves as Associate Board Member for Bethpage Federal Credit Union; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Anthony, and their
two children, Joy Kathryn and Nicholas Anthony, all of whom feel privi-
leged to be a part of her life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their profession and community,
and have shown a long and sustained commitment to excellence, certainly
have earned the recognition and applause of all citizens of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Anne Nikas-Brigis upon the occasion of her designation as a 2015
Long Island Center for Business and Professional Women Achiever; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Anne Nikas-Brigis, President/CEO, Long Island YMCA.
