LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Yvonne Grant upon the occasion of her
designation as a 2015 Long Island Center for Business and Professional
Women Achiever
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
outstanding individuals who distinguish themselves through their excep-
tional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the highest
level of personal achievement; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Yvonne Grant upon the occasion of her designation as a 2015 Long Island
Center for Business and Professional Women Achiever; this auspicious
occasion will be celebrated at the Center's 36th Annual Achievers'
Awards Gala, to be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2015; and
WHEREAS, For more than 35 years, the Long Island Center for Business
and Professional Women has been dedicated to advancing women in busi-
ness, industry and the professions; and
WHEREAS, The Long Island Center for Business and Professional Women
celebrate and honor women who are leaders, mentors and who have opened
doors for other women to help foster their rise in business, the
professions and in their community; Yvonne Grant is one such individual;
and
WHEREAS, A resident of North Babylon, New York for more than 30 years,
Yvonne Grant attended Hofstra University majoring in History Education;
and
WHEREAS, Today, as President/CEO of Girl Scouts of Suffolk County,
Yvonne Grant coordinates the agency's services to more than 40,000 girls
and 9,000 adult volunteers; the agency serves one out of every four
girls in Suffolk County, and is ranked first in membership share in the
nation; and
WHEREAS, In 1980, Yvonne Grant began her illustrious career in Girl
Scouts when she became her daughter's Brownie troop leader; after six
years as a troop leader, she was appointed as a Girl Scouts Area Coordi-
nator; and
WHEREAS, In 1988, Yvonne Grant joined the staff of Girl Scouts of
Suffolk County and rose steadily through the ranks until she was
appointed President/CEO by the Board of Directors in 2006; and
WHEREAS, Under Yvonne Grant's luminous direction, Girl Scouts of
Suffolk County received the prestigious and inaugural Not for Profit
Business Achievement Award by the Hauppauge Industrial Association; she
was also the recipient of the Annual Phoenix Award for her efforts on
behalf of women and children; and
WHEREAS, In 2014, Yvonne Grant organized the development and opening
of Girl Scouts of Suffolk County's Discovery World STEM Center; and
WHEREAS, Active in her community as well as her profession, Yvonne
Grant has volunteered in local PTAs, nursery school boards, and Girl
Scouts of America; and
WHEREAS, Yvonne Grant has been the recipient of numerous awards and
accolades for her exemplary leadership role within the community includ-
ing the Martin Luther King Jr. Meritorious Award; she was also named one
of the 50 Most Influential Long Islanders, Woman of the Year by the
Zonta Club of Suffolk County, and one of the Top 50 Women on Long Island
by LONG ISLAND BUSINESS NEWS; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Yvonne Grant was honored as one of the most
distinguished leaders of the community by the Hope Outreach Foundation,
and recognized as Woman of the Year by the National Association of
Professional Women; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable woman has been featured in NEWSDAY, LI PRESS,
LI BUSINESS NEWS, HAUPPAUGE REPORTER, JET MAGAZINE, FIOS, and NEWS 12
LONG ISLAND; and
WHEREAS, Now in her fourth decade of empowering young women, Yvonne
Grant continues to lead one of the region's largest not-for-profit
service agencies, reaching out to girls and adults through comprehensive
programs and social media, as well as maintaining a vision of a better
tomorrow for young women and a commitment to serving the needs of fami-
lies; and
WHEREAS, Today, Yvonne Grant is married, and the proud mother of three
children, as well as the loving grandmother of one grandchild; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their profession and community,
and have shown a long and sustained commitment to excellence, certainly
have earned the recognition and applause of all citizens of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Yvonne Grant upon the occasion of her designation as a 2015 Long
Island Center for Business and Professional Women Achiever; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Yvonne Grant.
