LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Honorable Chief Nkechi Cecilia Iroku
upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the prestigious
Mother's Day Award by the National Action Network and Gateway Christian
Center
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals within the State of New York who give of
their time and energies in support of spiritual endeavors which aim to
benefit the community at large; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Honorable Chief Nkechi Cecilia Iroku upon the occasion of her desig-
nation as recipient of the prestigious Mother's Day Award by the
National Action Network and Gateway Christian Center, to be celebrated
at its Government Gala Awards Ceremony, on Sunday, May 10, 2015, at
Jericho Terrace, Mineola, New York; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious award is given to women who have demonstrated
exemplary works, services, and commitment to the people of their commu-
nity; Chief Nkechi Cecilia Iroku truly deserves this honor for her
contributions to society; and
WHEREAS, In 1983, Chief Nkechi Cecilia Iroku married Chief Dr. Inno-
cent Iroku, MD; a year later, the couple moved to the United States; and
WHEREAS, Chief Nkechi Cecilia Iroku received her Bachelor's degree in
Earth Science/Education from the University of Nigeria Nsukka; she then
went on to earn her Master's degree in both Special Education and School
Guidance and Counseling from Long Island University; and
WHEREAS, Since 1988, Chief Nkechi Cecilia Iroku has held the position
of Certified Teacher of Regular/Special Education; in addition, she has
been employed as a School Guidance Counselor since 1995; and
WHEREAS, In 1996, Chief Nkechi Cecilia Iroku founded Dedicate Services
for Children; through her role as President/CEO, she provides Early
Intervention-Special Instruction/ABA Therapy; and
WHEREAS, Chief Nkechi Cecilia Iroku is a dedicated and organized
teacher, mentor, instructor, and counselor; she tailors her work to meet
the educational, social, and emotional needs of her students and
clients, by supporting, educating, and nurturing them to achieve their
goals; and
WHEREAS, Chief Nkechi Cecilia Iroku is especially devoted in support-
ing the parents of special needs children; she develops and executes
training topics for teachers and parents by exposing them to the commu-
nity resources that are available to them; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the years, Chief Nkechi Cecilia Iroku has spon-
sored many students who are in need in America, as well as overseas to
achieve their individual educational goals; and
WHEREAS, Active in her community, Chief Nkechi Cecilia Iroku enjoys
cooking for and feeding less fortunate pregnant women and children in
her town; she also contributes her time and donates to different
missionaries and organizations, such as cancer walks, St. Jude's Chil-
dren's Hospital, and American Veterans; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Chief Nkechi Cecilia Iroku is a member of
several associations, including the United Federation of Teachers in
both the United States and Nigeria; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Honorable Chief Nkechi Cecilia Iroku upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the prestigious Mother's Day Award by the
National Action Network and Gateway Christian Center; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Honorable Chief Nkechi Cecilia Iroku, the National Action
Network, and the Gateway Christian Center.
