LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Cordelia A. Nwozuzu upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the prestigious Mother's Day Award by
the National Action Network and Gateway Christian Center

WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Cordelia A. Nwozuzu upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the prestigious Mother's Day Award by the National Action Network and
Gateway Christian Center, to be celebrated at its Government Gala Awards
Ceremony, on Sunday, May 10, 2015, at Jericho Terrace, Mineola, New
York; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious award is given to women who have demonstrated
exemplary works, services, and commitment to the people of their commu-
nities; Cordelia A. Nwozuzu truly deserves this honor for her contrib-
utions to the citizens of her neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, Cordelia Nwozuzu was born on October 28, 1948, to Madam Rosa-
line and James Anowai in Lagos, Nigeria; and
WHEREAS, Cordelia Nwozuzu attended primary school in Port Harcourt,
and then went on to attend high school; after graduating, she met and
then later married Dr. Emmanuel Nwozuzu; and
WHEREAS, A strong believer in education, Cordelia Nwozuzu earned both
a degree in Economics and Business Administration from Iowa State
University, Ames, Iowa; she then went on to obtain two master's degrees
in Special Education and Guidance Counseling; and
WHEREAS, Cordelia Nwozuzu then furthered her education by receiving an
Advanced Certificate in School Administration and Supervision; and
WHEREAS, For many years, Cordelia Nwozuzu taught both high school math
and social studies; today, she is a special education teacher within the
New York Public School system; and
WHEREAS, Cordelia Nwozuzu enjoys bringing hope to those children with
special needs; she believes that a positive attitude is the single most
important quality for anyone who works with these remarkable children;
and
WHEREAS, Active in her community, Cordelia Nwozuzu, also known as
Aunty Cordy, is a faithful participant of her parish choir and many
other church organizations; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Cordelia Nwozuzu gives not only of her time and
energies but also of her competence, and intelligence to mentoring teen-
agers from group homes, and assisting them in finding ways to cope with
their day to day struggles; and
WHEREAS, Cordelia Nwozuzu is also a vital member of several organiza-
tions within Nigerian communities, including Igbo Organization, Owerri
Improvement, and Imo Association; in addition, she adopted 10 orphans
from group homes in her native land; and
WHEREAS, Cordelia Nwozuzu happily sends containers of clothes, shoes,
and other personal items to citizens of her home country of Nigeria; in
addition, she provides financial assistance to widows and widowers so
they can better their lives by learning farming and trading skills; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Cordelia A. Nwozuzu upon the occasion of her designation as recip-
ient of the prestigious Mother's Day Award by the National Action
Network and Gateway Christian Center; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Cordelia A. Nwozuzu, the National Action Network, and the
Gateway Christian Center.
