LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Grace Ogiehor-Enoma upon the occa-
sion of her designation as recipient of the prestigious Mother's Day
Award by the National Action Network and Gateway Christian Center
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those individuals within the medical field who distinguish
themselves through professional excellence and who have made significant
contributions to the quality of life of citizens in the State of New
York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr.
Grace Ogiehor-Enoma upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the prestigious Mother's Day Award by the National Action Network and
Gateway Christian Center, to be celebrated at its Government Gala Awards
Ceremony, on Sunday, May 10, 2015, at Jericho Terrace, Mineola, New
York; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious award is given to women who have demonstrated
exemplary works, services, and commitment to the people of their commu-
nities; Dr. Grace Ogiehor-Enoma truly deserves this honor for her
contributions to society; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Grace Ogiehor-Enoma received her Nursing and Midwifery
Diploma in Nigeria; she then went on to earn her Bachelor of Science
degree in Nursing from Pace University, in New York City; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Grace Ogiehor-Enoma furthered her education by obtaining
a Master's degree in Public Health from City University of New York
(CUNY) at Hunter College, and a Master's degree in Nursing from Hunter-
Bellevue School of Nursing, as well as a Doctorate degree in Health
Administration (DHA) from the University of Phoenix, Arizona; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Dr. Grace Ogiehor-Enoma holds a certificate in
Health Administration, and in 2009, she completed a fellowship; she was
also a 2010-2011 Mentor of the New York University (NYU) Leadership
Institute for Black Nurses; and
WHEREAS, An activist, Dr. Grace Ogiehor-Enoma has dedicated her call-
ing and professional knowledge to improving the health of her community;
recognizing the critical role of nursing in health promotion and disease
prevention, she started a not-for-profit professional association, The
Nigerian Nurses Association of USA, New York, in 2002, to help eliminate
health disparities in Nigerian and African Immigrant Communities through
health education and outreach; and
WHEREAS, This vital healthcare initiative has positively affected a
significant number of people in African communities in both New York and
Nigeria; due to its success, other Nigerian nurses across the United
States and Canada established the National Association of Nigerian Nurs-
es in North America (NANNNA), as well as an international movement enti-
tled Diaspora Nurses Association of Nigeria (DNAN); and
WHEREAS, Dr. Grace Ogiehor-Enoma shares her extensive knowledge by
writing a bi-weekly health column for AFRICAN ABROAD NEWSPAPER; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Dr. Grace Ogiehor-Enoma has helped to bridge the
gap in racial, ethnic, and economic disparities, by starting a review
program to help foreign trained nurses pass the NCLEX exam and become
Registered Nurses; she then licensed the program as a school to provide
allied health classes for low-income families; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable woman has been the recipient of numerous
awards and accolades for her personal and professional achievements and
community involvement; and
WHEREAS, As a leader in her profession, Dr. Grace Ogiehor-Enoma has
proven herself to be a great asset to medicine and to the health and
welfare of the citizens of the State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Grace Ogiehor-Enoma upon the occasion of her designation as
recipient of the prestigious Mother's Day Award by the National Action
Network and Gateway Christian Center; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Grace Ogiehor-Enoma, the National Action Network, and the
Gateway Christian Center.
