LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Ngozi Osuagwu, MD, upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the prestigious Mother's Day Award by
the National Action Network and Gateway Christian Center
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those individuals within the medical field who distinguish
themselves through professional excellence and who have made significant
contributions to the quality of life of citizens in the State of New
York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Ngozi Osuagwu, MD, upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the prestigious Mother's Day Award by the National Action Network and
Gateway Christian Center, to be celebrated at its Government Gala Awards
Ceremony, on Sunday, May 10, 2015, at Jericho Terrace, Mineola, New
York; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious award is given to women who have demonstrated
exemplary works, services, and commitment to the people of her communi-
ty; Ngozi Osuagwu, MD, truly deserves this honor for her contributions
to society; and
WHEREAS, Ngozi Osuagwu, MD, graduated from Johns Hopkins University in
Baltimore, Maryland; she then received her medical training at the State
University of New York at Buffalo; and
WHEREAS, Ngozi Osuagwu, MD, is both a Board Certified
Obstetrician/Gynecologist and a Fellow of the American College of
Obstetricians and Gynecologists; in addition, she is a North American
Menopause Society Certified Menopause Practitioner, and a Costin Schol-
ar, a recognition accorded to individuals that have demonstrated
advanced aptitude in the area of medical education; and
WHEREAS, Today, Ngozi Osuagwu, MD, holds the esteemed title of Clin-
ical Director of the Women's Health Center at Doctors
Hospital/OhioHealth, and the position of Clinical Associate Professor of
Obstetrics and Gynecology at Ohio University College of Osteopathic
Medicine; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Ngozi Osuagwu, MD, sees private patients at her
office, OhioHealth Obstetrics and Gynecology; from 1995-1997, she was an
attending obstetrician/gynecologist in the now defunct Central Ohio
Medical Group, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, In 1997, Ngozi Osuagwu, MD, established The Healthy Woman,
Inc.; she held the title of CEO/Clinical Director until December of
2004; and
WHEREAS, Ngozi Osuagwu, MD, has given many keynote speeches, many
lectures, and led numerous workshops on various aspects of health, espe-
cially in the area of women's health; she has spoken on health dispari-
ties and literacy, cultural competency, and a myriad of health issues
affecting different minority populations; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable woman has been the recipient of numerous
awards and accolades, including the Woman of Achievement Award from the
New York City Branch of American Association of University Women in
recognition of her contributions for advancing the cause of equity and
education for women and girls, and in November of 2011, she received the
Cheryl Boyce Excellence in Health Care Award from the Community Property
Development Corporation, an affiliate of the St. Paul A.M.E. Church, as
a leading professional in African American healthcare; and
WHEREAS, Ngozi Osuagwu, MD, is the author of several books, such as
the award-winning LETTERS TO MY SISTERS, PLAIN TRUTH AND STRAIGHTFORWARD
ADVICE FROM A GYNECOLOGIST, and co-authored the recently published
LETTERS TO OUR SISTERS: PRACTICAL HEALTHY ADVICE FOR WOMEN; and
WHEREAS, Ngozi Osuagwu, MD, is a happily married mother of three chil-
dren; in her spare time, she enjoys playing Scrabble, dancing, reading,
and Yoga; and
WHEREAS, As a leader in her profession, Ngozi Osuagwu, MD, has proven
herself to be a great asset to medicine and to the health and welfare of
the citizens of the State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Ngozi Osuagwu, MD, upon the occasion of her designation as recipi-
ent of the prestigious Mother's Day Award by the National Action Network
and Gateway Christian Center; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Ngozi Osuagwu, MD, the National Action Network, and the Gate-
way Christian Center.
