LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the Hill-
crest Jewish Center of Flushing, New York
WHEREAS, Religious institutions, and the many spiritual, social and
educational benefits they confer, play a vital role in the development
of the moral fabric of a responsible citizenry; and
WHEREAS, It is the tradition of this State and this Nation to pay
tribute to those institutions and individuals who have contributed to
the ethical and spiritual values of their communities; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body takes pleasure in commemorating the
75th Anniversary of the Hillcrest Jewish Center of Flushing, New York;
and
WHEREAS, The Hillcrest Jewish Center, a traditional egalitarian
congregation affiliated with the United Synagogue of Conservative
Judaism, seeks to foster love of Judaism and of the Jewish People
through study of Torah, the performance of mitzvoth, meaningful prayer,
the performance of acts of Chesed, loving kindness, and to inspire our
members to engage in Tikkun Olam, making this world a better place in
which to live; and
WHEREAS, The Hillcrest Jewish Center was established in 1939, to serve
the religious needs of conservative Jewish residents of northeast
Queens, New York; located on the boundary of Flushing and Jamaica, their
mission is to share in the cultural, educational, and social activities
in both Queens and the rest of New York City; and
WHEREAS, Over the years, the Hillcrest Jewish Center has grown in many
ways, evolving into a truly vibrant center of Jewish life in the Queens
community and playing a major role in the lives of its congregants; and
WHEREAS, The Hillcrest Jewish Center of Flushing, New York, stands on
the threshold of tomorrow, prepared to meet the challenges of the coming
decades while retaining that spiritual resolve which characterizes its
past; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to take note of
enduring religious institutions and to bring such institutions to the
attention of the people of this Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Hillcrest Jewish Center of
Flushing, New York, fully confident that this commemoration reflects the
belief in those values which enhance the dignity and purpose of life;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Hillcrest Jewish Center of Flushing, New York.
