LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending ex-Chief Anthony Raccomandato upon the
occasion of his designation for special recognition after 30 years of
dedicated service to the North Lindenhurst Fire Department
WHEREAS, The firefighters of New York State are renowned throughout the
Nation; their reputation is synonymous with excellence in the arduous
field of fire protection and prevention; and
WHEREAS, Since the early days of "teapot steamers," the volunteer
firefighter has been the cornerstone of our great Nation's efforts to
spare us from the ravages of fire; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to commend ex-Chief Anthony
Raccomandato upon the occasion of his designation for special recogni-
tion after 30 years of dedicated service to the North Lindenhurst Fire
Department, to be celebrated at its 58th Annual Installation Dinner on
Saturday, April 25, 2015, at the East Wind Caterers in Wading River, New
York; and
WHEREAS, In 1981, 14-year-old Anthony Raccomandato joined the North
Lindenhurst Fire Department as a Junior member; he continued to be an
active member of the Juniors until he applied for membership as an
active Firefighter in January of 1985; and
WHEREAS, In April of 1985, Anthony Raccomandato became a member of the
Piston Knockers drill team; and
WHEREAS, During his probationary period, Anthony Raccomandato
completed all necessary training certificates; in 1987, his exceptional
active membership earned him two awards, Overall Department and High
Department Percentage; and
WHEREAS, As a member of Engine Company No. 2, Anthony Raccomandato
attained several line officer positions including 2nd Lieutenant, 1st
Lieutenant, and Captain; and
WHEREAS, In December 1995, Anthony Raccomandato was elected to the
esteemed position of 2nd Deputy Chief; rising through the ranks, he was
promoted to 1st Deputy Chief, and then Chief of Department, a position
he held until December 2000; and
WHEREAS, In 1981, 1995, 1996, 1997, and 1998, Anthony Raccomandato was
instrumental in helping the Piston Knocker Drill Team capture the New
York State Drill Team Championship; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Babylon, New York, Anthony Raccomandato has
served on several committees, and is presently a Trustee for the North
Lindenhurst Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, and their two sons,
whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his
achievements; and
WHEREAS, Volunteer firefighters and fire departments not only provide
the critical service of fire protection but also engage in other activ-
ities of great benefit and importance to the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help others
and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with family
and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need; Anthony
Raccomandato is such a firefighter; throughout 30 years of devoted
service, this volunteer heroically performed, above and beyond the call
of duty, those responsibilities which define the task of fire
protection; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend ex-Chief Anthony Raccomandato upon the occasion of his desig-
nation for special recognition after 30 years of dedicated service to
the North Lindenhurst Fire Department; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to ex-Chief Anthony Raccomandato.
