LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Licari's Big M upon the occasion of its
designation as recipient of the 2015 Business of the Year Award by the
Herkimer County Chamber of Commerce

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize the
achievements of those individuals and businesses which substantially
contribute to the economic vitality of their communities and the entire
Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Licari's Big M upon the occasion of its designation as recipient of the
2015 Business of the Year Award by the Herkimer County Chamber of
Commerce, to be celebrated at its 47th Annual Membership Meeting and
Luncheon on Thursday, April 30, 2015, at Francesca's Banquet Facility,
Ilion, New York; and
WHEREAS, In 1952, Louis Licari opened his first grocery store, The
Royal Market, located in Frankfort, New York; five years later, he moved
the business to St. Johnsville, New York, and opened the Thriftway
Supermarket; and
WHEREAS, Upon graduating college in 1970, Carmen Licari joined his
father's family business in St. Johnsville, and the FOODLAND group;
since joining the business, he has worked diligently to open 14 grocery
stores; and
WHEREAS, During the mid-1970s, Carmen Licari opened a second grocery
store in Dolgeville, New York; in 1983, he joined the BIG M group; and
WHEREAS, In the late 1980s, Carmen Licari went on to open stores in
both Ft. Plain, and Frankfort, New York, which he sold in the 1990s; and
WHEREAS, In 1999, both Carmen Licari and his wife, Rhonda, became the
sole owners of Louis C Licari Supermarkets, Inc.; together, they opened
a store in Ft. Plain, which was unfortunately lost in a major flood in
2006; and
WHEREAS, In 2011, Carmen Licari opened Little M in St. Johnsville, and
three years later, he invested in the remodeling of the Dolgeville
store; and
WHEREAS, Today, Carmen Licari's two sons are vital members in the
business; they relish being a part of a fourth generation family grocery
business; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Rhonda, and their two
sons, Nick and Shea, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his
life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body acknowl-
edges this exceptional business and its contributions to the local and
State economies, fully confident that it will continue to enjoy the
sparkling successes it has experienced thus far; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Licari's Big M upon the occasion of its designation as recipient
of the 2015 Business of the Year Award by the Herkimer County Chamber of
Commerce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Carmen Licari, Owner/Operator, Licari's Big M.
