LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Da'mani Burns of Newburgh Free
Academy upon the occasion of being named Varsity845 Wrestler of the Year

WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young people within the State of New York who, by
achieving outstanding success in athletic competition, have inspired and
brought pride to their school and community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the intent of this Legislative Body to
congratulate Da'mani Burns of Newburgh Free Academy upon the occasion of
being named Varsity845 Wrestler of the Year; and
WHEREAS, A senior at Newburgh Free Academy, Da'mani Burns was selected
for this prestigious honor in recognition of his outstanding athletic
achievements, as well as his exemplary character demonstrated both on
and off the wrestling mats; and
WHEREAS, Da'mani Burns achieved an outstanding 46-3 record in the
132-pound wrestling weight class; he also placed third in the New York
State tournament, and became just the third wrestler from Newburgh Free
Academy to place in consecutive seasons during the past 15 years; and
WHEREAS, In addition, this esteemed student-athlete set a new school
record with 37 pins, and was Section IX's best finisher at the Eastern
States Classic; and
WHEREAS, Da'mani Burns will continue his wrestling career at SUNY
Cortland, where he will be attending college in the fall; and
WHEREAS, The exemplary performance of Da'mani Burns is reflective of
his dedication, determination and personal commitment; his achievements
stand as a hallmark of what is best in the families, schools and commu-
nities across New York State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Da'mani Burns of Newburgh Free Academy upon the occasion of
being named Varsity845 Wrestler of the Year, and to wish him all the
best in his future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Da'mani Burns.
