LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Juan Julio George upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the 2015 Third Age Achievement Award in
Business by Senior Services of Albany
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Juan Julio George has given not only of his time and energies
but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Juan Julio
George upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the 2015
Third Age Achievement Award in Business by Senior Services of Albany, to
be celebrated at its 19th Annual Third Age Achievement Awards Luncheon
on Friday, May 8, 2015, at Wolfert's Roost Country Club, Albany, New
York; and
WHEREAS, Each year, this auspicious event recognizes the contributions
that area residents and professionals have made in their communities
during the Third Age of their lives; Juan Julio George will receive this
award for his valuable business achievements and devoted service to his
community after the age of 60; and
WHEREAS, Born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Juan Julio George
moved to the United States in 1966, where he attended Benjamin Franklin
High School in East Harlem, New York; and
WHEREAS, Juan Julio George attended the State University of New York
at Oswego, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political
Science, and continued his graduate work at the Nelson A. Rockefeller
College of Public Affairs and Policy; and
WHEREAS, In 1989, Juan Julio George began his illustrious career with
the Desmond Hotel, where he held the esteemed position as the Director
of Services; in 2010, he retired as the Director of Operations, oversee-
ing a staff of over 75 employees; and
WHEREAS, In 2004, Juan Julio George founded Latino Publishing & Commu-
nications to provide a vehicle in which ideas and information could be
effectively communicated inside and outside of the Latino community in
the New York Capital Region; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous direction of Juan Julio George, the organ-
ization has provided a platform for the creation of Latino Radio Online,
LATINO NEW YORK MAGAZINE, Latino E-Zine, and Latino Direct Mailer; and
WHEREAS, Juan Julio George has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of himself unstintingly; from 1992 to 1998, he served in various
capacities at the Whitney M. Young Health Center including Nominating
Committee Chair, and Chairman of the Board; he also served on the Board
of Directors for The Altamont Program, and the AIDS Council of North-
eastern New York; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Juan Julio George is involved with the Capital
District YMCA, where he was an active member of the Board of Directors
from 2005 to 2007; currently, he serves as President of the YMCA's Black
& Latino Achievers Committee; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Juan Julio George is on the Board of Trustees of
Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Albany, and is an avid supporter of
their mission to help the poor; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Juan Julio George has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife of 43 years, the
former Maria Luisa Contreras, and their two children, Nefsi Claudina and
Juan Luis, as well as four grandchildren, all of whom feel privileged to
be a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Juan Julio George has displayed
throughout his life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Juan Julio George upon the occasion of his designation as recipi-
ent of the 2015 Third Age Achievement Award in Business by Senior
Services of Albany; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Juan Julio George.
