LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Joseph Shea upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the 2015 Volunteer of the Year Award by The
Food Pantries for the Capital District

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to call attention to
the dedicated efforts of those individuals from across the State of New
York who volunteer their time and energies in service to the community;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Joseph Shea upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
2015 Volunteer of the Year Award by The Food Pantries for the Capital
District, to be celebrated at its 21st Annual Community Auction on
Saturday, May 2, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Working together to feed the hungry since 1979, The Food
Pantries for the Capital District is a coalition of 53 food pantries
located in Albany, Rensselaer and Saratoga Counties; annually, The Food
Pantries helps fund, collect and deliver nearly 2 million pounds of food
for its member pantries, which provides approximately 2.5 million meals;
and
WHEREAS, The Food Pantries for the Capital District supports its
member pantries by providing service coordination, education, training,
opportunities for networking, infant needs and holiday meal programs;
and
WHEREAS, A volunteer with Cathedral Parish Social Services for the
past 40 years, Joseph Shea has selflessly contributed his time and ener-
gies to helping others and is a shining example of the spirit of volun-
teerism; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Shea faithfully and graciously serves those within his
community by stocking pantry shelves, serving hungry guests, and making
home deliveries to those in need; he is willing to come to serve the
hungry whenever the food pantry is short-handed; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Joseph Shea has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Volunteerism is an essential element of all societies; it
provides a way in which the human values of community, caring and serv-
ing can be sustained and strengthened; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Joseph Shea has displayed throughout
his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Joseph Shea upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the 2015 Volunteer of the Year Award by The Food Pantries for the Capi-
tal District; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Joseph Shea.
