LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Barbara Bumsted upon the occasion of her
retirement after many years of distinguished service to the Board of
Directors of the WCA Hospital of Jamestown

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commemorate and
recognize certain milestones and accomplishments celebrated by citizens
of this great Nation and Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Barbara Bumsted upon the occasion of her retirement after many years of
distinguished service to the Board of Directors of the WCA Hospital of
Jamestown; and
WHEREAS, Chartered in 1885, the Woman's Christian Association of New
York began as both a boarding house for young working women and a one-
room hospital for its residents and other sick or injured persons; and
WHEREAS, Today, WCA Hospital of Jamestown is Southwestern New York's
largest not-for-profit healthcare provider, offering an extensive range
of inpatient and outpatient acute and rehabilitation services; and
WHEREAS, The mission of WCA Hospital is to improve the health and
well-being of the people of Chautauqua County and the surrounding area
in a way that includes compassion, dedication, a commitment to quality
and patient safety, while maintaining economic viability and a vision
for the 21st Century; and
WHEREAS, Barbara Bumsted has helped advance this mission through her
diligent service as a member of the Board of Directors for WCA Hospital;
and
WHEREAS, A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Barbara Bumsted graduated with a
Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Wittenberg University;
and
WHEREAS, Appointed to the WCA Hospital Board of Directors in January
of 1994, Barbara Bumstead has been recognized by her colleagues as an
expert on governance and board performance throughout her 21 years of
service; during that time, she has served as Chair, Vice-Chair, and Past
Chair of the WCA Hospital Board of Directors; and
WHEREAS, Along with her service on the WCA Hospital Board of Direc-
tors, Barbara Bumsted has served on the Chautauqua Integrated Delivery
System as a board member from WCA; she was also a member of the Board of
Directors for Hamot Hospital, in Erie, Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, Barbara Bumsted continues to serve the residents of Chautau-
qua County as the Director of Adult Formation at St. Luke's Episcopal
Church in Jamestown, and as the Manager of Alumni Hall at the Chautauqua
Institution; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize and honor beloved citizens who have contributed in extraordinary
ways to the betterment of the lives of residents of this great Empire
State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Barbara Bumsted upon the occasion of her retirement after many
years of distinguished service to the Board of Directors of the WCA
Hospital of Jamestown; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Barbara Bumsted.
