LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Robert E. Ganz upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Guilderland Library Foundation Founders'
Award on April 25, 2015

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Robert E. Ganz has given not only of his time and energies
but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Robert E. Ganz
upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Guilderland
Library Foundation Founders' Award, to be celebrated with a gala on
Saturday, April 25, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Robert E. Ganz has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Born in Trenton, New Jersey, Robert E. Ganz graduated magna
cum laude from the University of Rochester in 1973 with a Bachelor's
degree in Political Science; he went on to earn his Juris Doctor from
the Columbus School of Law at the Catholic University of America in
1975; and
WHEREAS, Upon his completion of law school, Robert E. Ganz returned to
Rochester where he joined a large law firm as an Associate before relo-
cating to the Capital District in 1978; during this time, in addition to
his legal work, Robert became head of the Hillel Foundation in Albany,
as well as an officer and ultimately President of the synagogue Congre-
gation Ohav Shalom; and
WHEREAS, In addition, he was actively involved with the interfaith
chapel at SUNY Albany where he was instrumental in a rebuilding campaign
after a devastating fire destroyed its old facility; and
WHEREAS, In 1981, Robert E. Ganz began his own practice, and seeing it
grow, just seven years later, he became a Founding Partner of Ganz,
Wolkenbreit & Siegfeld LLP where he continues to practice commercial
litigation, business, employment law, and real estate litigation; and
WHEREAS, A frequent lecturer for Bar Associations and other continuing
legal education providers in business law topics, Robert E. Ganz has
been recognized by his peers with the Super Lawyer designation for
upstate New York in the area of commercial litigation for the past seven
consecutive years; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to his community, Robert E. Ganz was a member of
the Guilderland Public Library Board of Trustees from 2001 to 2014,
serving as its President from 2004 to 2007; he has also served as Vice
President of the Daughters of Sarah Foundation, Inc. and President of
the Jewish National Fund of the Capital Region; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, this esteemed man is Past President of Congre-
gation Ohav Shalom, Past member of the Board of Directors of the North-
east Association of the Blind, and Past Chairman of the Campus Commis-
sion of the Jewish Federation of NENY; and
WHEREAS, Robert E. Ganz is the proud recipient of numerous awards and
accolades including the Distinguished Service Award by Empire State Food
Service Association and the Trustee of the Year Award by the Upper
Hudson Library System; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout has been his wife, Dorothy, who feels
privileged to be a part of his life and rejoices in his achievements;
and

WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Robert E. Ganz has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Robert E. Ganz has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Robert E. Ganz upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the Guilderland Library Foundation Founders' Award on April 25, 2015;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Robert E. Ganz.
