LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Christine Miles Kelliher upon the
occasion of her designation for special recognition by St. Catherine's
Center for Children on May 1, 2015

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life of the communities of New York State are
reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of organizations and
individuals who devote themselves to the welfare of the community and
its citizens; and
WHEREAS, Christine Miles Kelliher has given not only of her time and
energies but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and
consequently has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Christine Miles Kelliher upon the occasion of her designation for
special recognition by St. Catherine's Center for Children, to be cele-
brated at the 7th Annual SCCCript & SCCCreen Gala - South Pacific, on
Friday, May 1, 2015; and
WHEREAS, On May 25, 1886, a group of Roman Catholic nuns, the Daugh-
ters of Charity, opened a home for sick orphans at historic Schuyler
Mansion in the city of Albany, New York; in 1913, the orphanage was
moved to 40 North Main Avenue, and was officially named the St.
Catherine's Center for Children; and
WHEREAS, St. Catherine's Center for Children provides a comprehensive
range of human services designed to offer hope, foster growth, and
improve the lives of the children and families it serves; and
WHEREAS, The dedicated staff of St. Catherine's Center is pleased to
recognize long-time friend, Christine Miles Kelliher for her steadfast
support for Albany institutions that make the Capital Region a better
place to live; her lifelong commitment to organizations that contribute
to the enhancement of life for so many people, in business, human
services and the arts, is worthy of special honor; and
WHEREAS, A native of Hanover, Indiana, Christine Miles Kelliher earned
her Bachelor's degree in Art History from Boston University, Massachu-
setts; she then obtained her Master's degree in American Culture from
George Washington University, Washington, D.C.; and
WHEREAS, Christine Miles Kelliher furthered her education by attending
the Museum Management Institute of the Getty Foundation at the Universi-
ty of California at Berkeley, and was a Fellow of the Winterthur Summer
Institute at the University of Delaware, Newark, Delaware; and
WHEREAS, Christine Miles Kelliher began her career in New York City,
at the Museum of the City of New York; she was subsequently employed at
several different museums including the Whitney Museum of American Art,
South Street Seaport Museum, and The Octagon Museum of the American
Institute of Architects Foundation; and
WHEREAS, She then went on to hold the title of Director of the Fraunc-
es Tavern Museum, before moving to Albany, New York, where she was hired
to the position of Director of the Albany Institute of History & Art, a
job she held from 1986 through her retirement in 2011; and
WHEREAS, Active in her community, Christine Miles Kelliher has been a
member of numerous Boards of Directors, including the Albany County
Convention and Visitors Bureau, WMHT Public Television, Albany-Colonie
Regional Chamber of Commerce, University at Albany Foundation, Albany
Local Development Corporation, Capitalize Albany, Sage President's Coun-
cil, and the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council; today, she continues to
be an active member of many of these vital organizations; and

WHEREAS, Christine Miles Kelliher served as Past President of the
Museum Association of New York State and the Gallery Association of New
York State; in addition, she participated on funding panels for the
National Endowment for the Humanities, National Endowment for the Arts,
and Institute of Museum and Library Services, as well as the New York
State Council on the Arts; and
WHEREAS, Christine Miles Kelliher has been called upon to contribute
her time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable woman is the recipient of numerous awards and
accolades, including the Partner in Lifelong Living Award from Excelsior
College, the Good Patroon Award by the Albany Roundtable, and the Women
of Excellence Award from the Albany-Colonie Chamber of Commerce; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Christine Miles Kelliher has stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout has been her husband, John Kelliher, who
feels privileged to be a part of her life and rejoices in her achieve-
ments; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Christine Miles Kelliher has
displayed throughout her life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Christine Miles Kelliher upon the occasion of her designation
for special recognition by St. Catherine's Center for Children on May 1,
2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Christine Miles Kelliher.
