LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Joseph Lhota upon the occasion of his
designation as Civic Leadership Honoree by Lutheran Healthcare on May
16, 2015
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Lhota has given not only of his time and energies but
also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Joseph Lhota upon the occasion of his designation as Civic Leadership
Honoree by Lutheran Healthcare, to be celebrated at its 132nd Annual
Dinner Dance on Saturday, May 16, 2015, at Pier Sixty, Chelsea Piers, in
New York City; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Lhota has been called upon to contribute his time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, With a long history of service to the City of New York,
Joseph Lhota currently serves as Senior Vice President, Vice Dean and
Chief of Staff at NYU Langone Medical Center where he is responsible for
helping to further align and integrate medical care, research and educa-
tion; and
WHEREAS, Prior to joining NYU Langone in 2014, Joseph Lhota served as
the Chairman and CEO of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority before
resigning to run for mayor of New York City in 2013; he has previously
held leadership roles with the Madison Square Garden Company and Cablev-
ision Systems Corporation; and
WHEREAS, In addition, he was an integral part of Mayor Giuliani's core
management team as the Deputy Mayor for Operations and Budget Director;
and
WHEREAS, Preceding his municipal service, Joseph Lhota spent 15 years
in investment banking, where he specialized in public finance, serving
state and local governments throughout the United States; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Joseph Lhota has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Lhota is an honor graduate of Georgetown University
and received his MBA from the Harvard Business School; he serves as a
Trustee of the City University of New York and is a Director of Cablevi-
sion Corporation and First Aviation Services Inc.; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Joseph Lhota has displayed through-
out his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Joseph Lhota upon the occasion of his designation as Civic Leader-
ship Honoree by Lutheran Healthcare on May 16, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Joseph Lhota.
