LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Michael D. Giasullo upon the occa-
sion of his designation as Physician Honoree by Lutheran Healthcare on
May 16, 2015

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Michael D. Giasullo has given not only of his time and
energies but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and
consequently has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr.
Michael D. Giasullo upon the occasion of his designation as Physician
Honoree by Lutheran Healthcare, to be celebrated at its 132nd Annual
Dinner Dance on Saturday, May 16, 2015, at Pier Sixty, Chelsea Piers, in
New York City; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Michael D. Giasullo has been called upon to contribute
his time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, A valued member of the Lutheran Medical Center family for
nearly three decades, Dr. Michael D. Giasullo has served as Chief of the
Department of Urology since 2001; in this capacity, he delivers high
quality and compassionate care to his patients each and every day, and
has made outstanding contributions to the health care of underserved
populations; and
WHEREAS, in addition, he is a clinical professor of urology at Down-
state Medical Center and recently coauthored a comprehensive review of
prostate cancer for WebMD; and
WHEREAS, Before joining Lutheran Medical Center as an attending urolo-
gist in 1986, Dr. Michael D. Giasullo was an attending physician at
Victory Memorial Hospital, Downstate Medical Center, and at New York
Methodist Hospital as an assistant in the Department of
Surgery/Oncology; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Michael D. Giasullo earned his medical degree from the
Chicago Medical School in 1979 and completed urology residencies at
Downstate Medical Center and Maimonides Medical Center; prior to that,
he earned his Bachelor's degree in Biology and a Master's degree in
Microbiology from Seton Hall University; and
WHEREAS, A native of Newark, New Jersey, Dr. Michael D. Giasullo is
board certified in urology and is a National Board of Medical Examiners
diplomat; he is extremely active in his professional community, serving
as a member of a number of medical societies including the Association
of Concerned Medical Professionals, a non-profit organization which
cares for patients who do not qualify for any type of medical insurance;
and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Dr. Michael D. Giasullo is a member of the Bay
Ridge Medical Society, Brooklyn Long Island Urologic Society, Kings
County Medical Association, American Medical Association and the Ameri-
can Urological Association; in 2014, he was honored by the Italian Amer-
ican Federation as Man of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Dr. Michael D. Giasullo has stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife of 34 years, Maria,
and their two children, Nicholas and Michael, all of whom feel privi-
leged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Dr. Michael D. Giasullo has
displayed throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Michael D. Giasullo upon the occasion of his designation as
Physician Honoree by Lutheran Healthcare on May 16, 2015; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Michael D. Giasullo.
