LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the untimely death of 19-year-old Jedi-
diah Woomer of Tonawanda, New York

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is deeply moved to inscribe upon its
records the passing of Jedidiah Woomer, a young man who will be remem-
bered for his sense of humor, as well as his care and concern for
others; and
WHEREAS, Jedidiah Woomer of Tonawanda, New York, died on Wednesday,
April 8, 2015, at the young age of 19; and
WHEREAS, Jedidiah Woomer, affectionately known as Jed, was a 2014
graduate of Tonawanda High School and a beloved member of his community;
and
WHEREAS, In July of 2014, Jed Woomer was diagnosed with a rare form of
cancer, and after a courageous battle fighting his disease, he succumbed
to his illness; there was an outpouring of support from the community he
so loved and called home; and
WHEREAS, Known for his compassionate spirit and warm smile, Jed Woomer
was proud to have achieved the rank of Eagle Scout after completing his
service project which involved the beautification of the facade at the
Ghostlight Theatre in North Tonawanda, where he also acted in
productions; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Jed Woomer was a lifeguard at the Brighton pool
during the summer, as well as at the local Aquatic & Fitness Center; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable young man strived to help others whenever
possible; he once successfully counseled a classmate who was being
bullied, and was contemplating suicide; he also had a soft spot in his
heart for those less fortunate; and
WHEREAS, Friends and neighbors of Jed Woomer created the Red for Jed
movement, wearing red in support of his efforts during his battle with
cancer; as a tribute to his enduring spirit, a portion of City Hall was
lit up with red lights throughout the weekend following his passing and
city employees wore red in honor of his memory; and
WHEREAS, Jed Woomer is survived by his parents, Mark and Carolyn, his
sister, Amanda, and residents of the Town of Tonawanda as a whole; he
will truly be missed; and
WHEREAS, A young man of incredible spirit and enthusiasm, Jed Woomer
has truly brought enduring honor to his family through his many achieve-
ments; his memory will remain in the hearts of all those who had the
privilege of knowing him; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of 19-year-old Jedidiah Woomer of Tonawanda, New York,
and to express its deepest condolences to his family; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Jedidiah Woomer.
