LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Eileen Knauer upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by the MaryJayne Casillo Foundation
on May 12, 2015
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Eileen Knauer has given not only of her time and energies but
also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Eileen
Knauer upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition by
the MaryJayne Casillo Foundation, to be celebrated at the Seventh Annual
Memorial Event in Memory of MaryJayne Casillo, on Tuesday, May 12, 2015,
at the Huntington Yacht Club, Huntington, New York; and
WHEREAS, The MaryJayne Casillo Foundation was created to honor both
the memory of a very special and courageous lady, MaryJayne Casillo, and
to support all cancer survivors; this vital organization raises funds
for various charities, including but not limited to Memorial Sloan-Ket-
tering, Splashes of Hope and Fred's Team, as well as family and friends
affected by cancer; and
WHEREAS, Eileen Knauer earned her Bachelor's degree in Business
Management from St. Johns University, New York City; and
WHEREAS, In 1986, Eileen Knauer began volunteering her services at the
Huntington YMCA; four years later, she became employed as a part-time
lifeguard at the center's pool; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her 22 years of service to the Huntington YMCA,
Eileen Knauer has held many positions, including both Fitness Instructor
and Director, Swim Instructor, Senior Program Director, Water Exercise
Coordinator, Associate Executive Director, and Personal Trainer; and
WHEREAS, In 2006, Eileen Knauer took over the leadership position of
Executive Director of the Huntington YMCA; a position she still holds
today; and
WHEREAS, Eileen Knauer has been called upon to contribute her time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Active in her community, Eileen Knauer is an energetic member
of numerous organizations, including the Huntington Chamber of Commerce,
Huntington Community Council, Huntington Rotary Club, Association of
Fundraising Professionals (AFP), and the Marcie Mazzola Foundation; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, this remarkable woman participates on several
committees, such as Town of Huntington Downtown Revitalization, Hunting-
ton Kiwanis Club Food Drive, Healthier Tomorrows, and the Town of Hunt-
ington-Huntington Station Action Coalition Subcommittee on Education and
Human Services, as well as various collaborations with local associ-
ations, hospitals and school districts; and
WHEREAS, In her spare time, Eileen Knauer enjoys traveling and read-
ing, studying nutrition, and maintaining her fitness; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Eileen Knauer has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her two children, Joseph and
Christine, both of whom feel privileged to be a part of her life and
rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Eileen Knauer has displayed through-
out her life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Eileen Knauer upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the MaryJayne Casillo Foundation on May 12, 2015; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Eileen Knauer.
