LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Scho-
harie County Maple Festival on April 25, 2015
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
applaud the leaders of commerce and industry whose accomplishments
contribute to the economic health and prosperity of the communities of
the State of New York and to the quality of life of its people; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 50th Anniversary of the Schoharie County Maple Festival to be
celebrated on Saturday, April 25, 2015, at the Cobleskill Fairgrounds,
Cobleskill, New York; and
WHEREAS, On January 17, 1966, the idea of a maple festival was put
down on paper in the form of By-laws, officially named Schoharie County
Maple Festival, Inc.; the individuals responsible for the drafting of
this document include William Churchill, George Clark, Charles Hubbell,
Frances Payne, and Otis Palmer; and
WHEREAS, Taking place in the small, quaint Town of Jefferson, New
York, the maple festival idea revolved around the first agricultural
harvest of the new year, the making of maple syrup, and other maple
products; its celebration would bring together families, friends, neigh-
bors, and any person who desired to join in on the fun and festivities;
and
WHEREAS, The Schoharie County Maple Festival was sought out to help
the economic growth of Schoharie County through the promotion of its
maple industry and products it produces; and
WHEREAS, For many years, the success of the Schoharie County Maple
Festival continued on in Jefferson but eventually, the event grew and
required more space; in 1994, the Board of Directors decided to move the
maple festival to the Fairgrounds of Cobleskill which allowed the
festival additional space, bathroom facilities, and parking; and
WHEREAS, Today, the monumental event of the Schoharie County Maple
Festival celebrates the first and sweetest harvest of the year, maple
syrup; and
WHEREAS, Through its diligence and expertise in maple syrup, the Scho-
harie County Maple Festival Committee has brought pride and recognition
to its local community, and to our great Empire State; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Schoharie County Maple Festival
on April 25, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Schoharie County Maple Festival Committee.
