LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Matt Chandler upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the 2015 Writing Award from the American
Society of Journalists and Authors

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge individuals within our midst who have made
significant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary writers it wishes to recognize for their valued contrib-
utions to the success and progress of society and publicly acknowledge
their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Matt Chandler
upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the 2015 Writing
Award from the American Society of Journalists and Authors on Thursday,
April 30, 2015, at the Roosevelt Hotel, New York, New York; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1948, the American Society of Journalists and
Authors (ASJA) is the nation's professional organization of independent
non-fiction writers; it provides its members with benefits and services
focusing on career development, and opportunities for members to explore
issues and concerns with their peers; and
WHEREAS, The ASJA Writing Awards honor the non-fiction work produced
on a freelance basis by independent writers in the past year; and
WHEREAS, Matt Chandler, a resident of Blasdell, New York, is being
recognized with the 2015 ASJA Writing Award, his first award as an
author, for his non-fiction book for children, BASEBALL STARS: COMPARING
THE GAME'S GREATEST PLAYERS, published in 2014 by Capstone Press and
SPORTS ILLUSTRATED KIDS; and
WHEREAS, A respected journalist, Matt Chandler's writings have also
earned him six New York Press Association Awards; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those authors
who enhance the vitality of their field and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the recognition
and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Matt Chandler upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the 2015 Writing Award from the American Society of Journalists and
Authors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Matt Chandler.
