LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Josef Kucher, distinguished
citizen and devoted member of his community
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Josef Kucher, a beloved resident of Port Jervis, New York
since 1967, died on Saturday, November 8, 2014, at the age of 77; and
WHEREAS, Born in Tainach, Austria the son of the late Franz and Maria
Kucher, Josef Kucher married Hannelore A. Kucher 51 years ago on Septem-
ber 9, 1963, in Bronx, New York; and
WHEREAS, Josef Kucher was drafted and served one year in the Austrian
Army before coming to the United States in 1959; two years after immi-
grating to the United States he was once again drafted and proudly
served in the U.S. Army; and
WHEREAS, This exemplary man distinguished himself in his profession
and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the
welfare of his community; and
WHEREAS, The proud owner and operator of Kucher's Shoe Repair and
Orthopedic on Front Street in Port Jervis, Josef Kucher was well known
in the tri-state area as an expert craftsman; he repaired and created
shoe and leather products with amazing skill, and had a deep appreci-
ation for all of his customers and a personal relationship with many;
and
WHEREAS, A man who had a deep love for life and his family, Josef
Kucher loved to sit on the porch and read the Sunday paper, walking and
gardening; he was a master story teller of his life's many adventures,
and among other things, he was always the life of the party; and
WHEREAS, Josef Kucher's commitment to excellence, and his spirit of
humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including charita-
ble and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by his loving son, Joseph, as well as 13 brothers
and sister, Josef Kucher is survived by his wife, Hannelore; his son,
Michael (Keri); his sister, Barbara; three beautiful grandchildren,
Caroline, Kate and Patrick; as well as several nieces and nephews; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit, imbued with a sense of
compassion, and comforted by a loving family, Josef Kucher leaves behind
a legacy which will long endure the passage of time and will remain as a
comforting memory to all he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Josef Kucher, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Josef Kucher.
