LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Trooper Edward Kuhn upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the Superintendent's Commendation Award
by the New York State Police

WHEREAS, The quality and sanctity of community life are cherished values
worthy of safeguarding, and this Legislative Body is moved to honor
those exemplary public servants who devote their lives to preserving and
protecting such values; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Trooper Edward Kuhn upon the occasion of his designation as a recipient
of the Superintendent's Commendation Award by the New York State Police
to be celebrated at the 39th Annual Awards Day Ceremony on Monday, May
11, 2015, in Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Trooper Edward Kuhn has proudly served as a member of the New
York State Police since 2004, and is currently assigned to the State
Police Valley Stream Station, Troop L, and resides in Mineola, New York;
and
WHEREAS, On November 27, 2014, Trooper Edward Kuhn observed a vehicle
unsafely passing his patrol vehicle, and then attempt to move quickly to
the right toward the exit ramp for the Southern State Parkway; the driv-
er of the automobile was unable to negotiate the exit ramp and drove off
the roadway, striking a large tree; and
WHEREAS, Trooper Edward Kuhn rushed to the scene of the vehicle which
had become engulfed in flames; he quickly extinguished the fire, and
assisted the entrapped occupants while making the appropriate notifica-
tions to Emergency Medical Services; and
WHEREAS, Trooper Edward Kuhn's determined efforts allowed the serious-
ly injured operator of the vehicle to be extracted and transported to
Nassau University Medical Center; he was subsequently arrested and
charged with driving while intoxicated, as well as numerous other
violations; and
WHEREAS, Through his heroic actions, Trooper Edward Kuhn demonstrated
his character and compassion for the welfare of others, personifying the
collective concern of public servants across the community of the State
of New York who respond when others are in need of help; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those extraor-
dinary individuals who unselfishly devote their lives to the preserva-
tion of order and the protection of others are worthy and due full
praise for their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Trooper Edward Kuhn upon the occasion of his designation as recip-
ient of the Superintendent's Commendation Award by the New York State
Police; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Trooper Edward Kuhn.
