LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Joan Marie Fasanelle-Braunfotel
upon the occasion of her induction into the Fontbonne Academy Hall of
Fame on May 6, 2015
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Joan Marie Fasanelle-Braunfotel upon the occasion of her induction
into the Fontbonne Academy Hall of Fame, to be celebrated at its Fleur
de Lys Dinner Dance, on Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at Gargiulo's Restau-
rant, Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, Fontbonne Hall Academy, an all-girls, private, Roman Catholic
high school in Brooklyn, New York, was established in 1937, by the
Sisters of St. Joseph, and is located within the Roman Catholic Diocese
of Brooklyn; and
WHEREAS, Born and raised in the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn, Joan
Marie Fasanelle-Braunfotel is a 1986 graduate of Fontbonne Hall Academy;
while a student at the Academy, she was a member of many extra-curricu-
lar activities including dance, skit and volleyball, and Sports Night;
and
WHEREAS, In addition, Joan Marie Fasanelle-Braunfotel held various
leadership positions, such as President of her Junior Class, and then
School President; an exemplary student, she was inducted into the
National Honor Society and was the recipient of a Regents Scholarship;
and
WHEREAS, Upon graduating, Joan Marie Fasanelle-Braunfotel received her
Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the Rose Hill Campus of Fordham
University, New York City; she went on to earn her Juris Doctorate in
1994, from Brooklyn Law School; and
WHEREAS, While attending law school, Joan Marie Fasanelle-Braunfotel
was a member of both the Journal of International Law and the Moot Court
Honor Society; and
WHEREAS, Joan Marie Fasanelle-Braunfotel's law career began in the
Kings County District Attorney's Office, where she held the position of
Assistant District Attorney; throughout her tenure, she worked on crimi-
nal prosecution of cases in the Criminal Court Bureau, Early Case
Assessment Bureau, and Investigations Bureau; and
WHEREAS, Joan Marie Fasanelle-Braunfotel also volunteered in the
Educational Programs Unit where Assistant District Attorneys are placed
in educational institutions to collaborate with teachers and students in
an effort to promote safety and justice in schools; and
WHEREAS, After leaving the public sector, Joan Marie Fasanelle-Braun-
fotel went on to private practice, specializing in Workers Compensation
Law and Social Security Disability, always representing the claimant;
and
WHEREAS, In 1997, Joan Marie Fasanelle-Braunfotel moved from Brooklyn
to New City in Rockland County; she married her husband in 1999, and
together they started a family; and
WHEREAS, Recently, Joan Marie Fasanelle-Braunfotel has become an
active member of her school district's Parent Teacher Association (PTA);
she held the title of PTA co-President of her children's elementary
school, and then was elected to the position of President of the Clarks-
town Council of PTAs, where she was responsible for overseeing 15
different school PTA units; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Keith Braunfotel,
and her twin sons, Ethan and Matthew, all of whom feel privileged to be
a part of her life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Joan Marie Fasanelle-Braunfotel upon the occasion of her
induction into the Fontbonne Academy Hall of Fame; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Joan Marie Fasanelle-Braunfotel.
