LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Jay Kimiecik upon the occasion of
his induction into the 2014 Athletic Hall of Fame by the SS Seward
Institute
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor those indi-
viduals whose exceptional athletic prowess leaves an enduring legacy in
their communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Jay Kimiecik upon the occasion of his induction into the 2014
Athletic Hall of Fame by the SS Seward Institute, which was celebrated
at its Induction Ceremony on September 27, 2014; and
WHEREAS, An important figure in the history of the SS Seward Insti-
tute, Jay Kimiecik Class of 1976, had an outstanding high school athlet-
ic career; he was a two-year starter in basketball, soccer, and base-
ball; he was also voted Most Valuable Player in both soccer and
basketball in his senior year; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his illustrious high school basketball career, Jay
Kimiecik's points averaged in double figures in both his junior and
senior years; as a junior, he averaged 14.3 points and made 88 of 118
free throws; in addition, he ranked third in the National Conference;
and
WHEREAS, In his senior year, Jay Kimiecik's basketball team played the
first game on their new basketball court at Golden Hill; during that
game, he scored a game-high 28 points against the perennial champions of
James I. O'Neill high school; and
WHEREAS, That same year, Jay Kimiecik averaged 15.4 points, finishing
with a remarkable three-year total of 512 points; and
WHEREAS, In the Fall soccer season of 1975, Jay Kimiecik was instru-
mental in leading his team in scoring with 18 goals, featuring a two-
goal and four-assist game which decided the Divisional Championship; and
WHEREAS, As a member of the varsity baseball team for two years, Jay
Kimiecik was junior centerfield for the team which captured the Class D
Section 9 Championship; his unbeatable talents demonstrated his agility
as a solid hitter and an excellent outfielder; and
WHEREAS, In his senior year of baseball, Jay Kimiecik was named to the
TH RECORD second team in the Tri-County area; and
WHEREAS, Jay Kimiecik graduated from SUNY Orange where he was a member
of the Region XV Championship Baseball Team; he later earned a Bachelor
of Science degree in Physical Education from SUNY Cortland, and a
master's degree from Purdue University, as well as a Ph. D. in Sport
Psychology from the University of Illinois; and
WHEREAS, Today, Jay Kimiecik is a professor of Health and Exercise
Psychology at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Kim, and their two
children, Carly and Colin, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of
his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Athletes such as Jay Kimiecik provide a tremendous service to
the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of student-
athletes in their athletic journeys and ensuring their success in their
future years; and
WHEREAS, Jay Kimiecik has clearly been an inspiration to the youth of
the SS Seward Institute, as well as to the community-at-large, and
accordingly merits recognition and applause for his impressive dedi-
cation to others; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals who work to support our proud tradition of
public education by providing their skills and talents to our students
and our schools; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Jay Kimiecik upon the occasion of his induction into the
2014 Athletic Hall of Fame by the SS Seward Institute; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Jay Kimiecik.
