LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Nicole Slevin upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of a Young Professionals Award by the SULLIVAN
COUNTY DEMOCRAT
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young adults within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Nicole Slevin upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of a
Young Professionals Award by the SULLIVAN COUNTY DEMOCRAT; and
WHEREAS, Nicole Slevin, Public Affairs Coordinator at Cornell Cooper-
ative Extension (CCE), was selected for this esteemed recognition for
being hardworking, ambitious, and creative; and
WHEREAS, Raised in Youngsville, New York, Nicole Slevin earned a Bach-
elor of Arts degree in Cultural Anthropology, and spent a semester in
Cape Town, South Africa, where she studied archaeology; and
WHEREAS, In 2008, after a year working for an upstate insurance firm,
Nicole Slevin returned home to Sullivan County, and accepted a position
as the Memberships and 4-H Development Assistant at CCE where she
acquired a deep understanding and mastery of CCE's interconnected
systems; as an assistant, she learned every facet of this worthy organ-
ization; and
WHEREAS, Nicole Slevin's colleagues took notice of her ambitious,
can-do spirit, and within three years, she was promoted to a full
program educator in the Family and Consumer Science division, in addi-
tion to duties in marketing, technology support, and public relations;
and
WHEREAS, Rising through the ranks, Nicole Slevin was promoted to
Director of Communications, and with the addition of leadership respon-
sibilities in fundraising, social media, and interoffice technology, she
became Public Affairs Coordinator in 2015; and
WHEREAS, Today, Nicole Slevin serves as the Public Affairs Coordinator
at CCE's Gerald J. Skoda Extension Education Center in Liberty, New
York; her primary duties and responsibilities include marketing, social
media outreach, website administration, fundraising, event planning,
technology support, graphic design, writing, and photography; and
WHEREAS, CCE's role has evolved over its century of existence locally,
but it remains a learning and gathering destination for no less than
1,000 square miles; for the past six years, Nicole Slevin has worked in
the heart of this effort, the Gerald J. Skoda Extension Education Center
in Liberty, New York; an integral part of the team, she has seen CCE
through its leanest years, and relishes being a part of a non-profit
community resource; and
WHEREAS, Active in her community as well as her profession, Nicole
Slevin is a member of both the Sullivan Renaissance's Steering and
Bilingual Advisory Committees, the Upper Delaware BioBlitz Steering
Committee, and the Delaware Highlands Conservancy Board; she also chairs
both the Delaware Highland Conservancy's Eagle Conservation and Educa-
tion Committee, and volunteers her time and energies to its Eagle Watch
program; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Nicole Slevin is an avid volunteer with the
National Park Service, and the Basha Kill Area Association; and
WHEREAS, A young adult drawn to travel and different cultures, Nicole
Slevin is a fluent speaker of Spanish, and has visited Mexico, the
Caribbean, Senegal, Canada, and soon will be traveling to Costa Rica;
and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Nicole Slevin upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
a Young Professionals Award by the SULLIVAN COUNTY DEMOCRAT; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Nicole Slevin.
