LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Rick DiCamillo upon the occasion of his
induction into the Schenectady City School District Athletic Hall of
Fame
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
outstanding athletes who have distinguished themselves through their
exceptional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the highest
level of personal achievement; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Rick
DiCamillo upon the occasion of his induction into the Schenectady City
School District Athletic Hall of Fame, to be celebrated at its 18th
Annual Hall of Fame and Reunion Dinner on Monday, September 21, 2015, at
Proctor's Theatre in Schenectady, New York; and
WHEREAS, Rick DiCamillo is a 1954 graduate of Mont Pleasant High
School, where he distinguished himself by his many notable achievements
in cross-country and track; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable athlete is the 1952 Class A Sectional Cross-
Country Champion and the winner of the Grout Run, Proctor Invitational,
and Fordham University Eastern Interscholastic Championships in 1953; he
also took first place at St. John's Interscholastic Run and the NYU
Interscholastic Run; and
WHEREAS, Undefeated in the mile run as a senior, Rick DiCamillo set a
meet record at the Utica Invitational, and was the 1954 New York State
one mile champion; in that same year, he ran the second fastest mile in
the nation that year; and
WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous awards for his many achievements,
Rick DiCamillo was named the 1954 Schenectady Trackman of the Year, and
won the 1954 Norman E. Kitching Award; and
WHEREAS, Rick DiCamillo was selected as a High School All-American,
and received a scholarship to attend the University of Notre Dame;
during his college career, he set a record for the Notre Dame freshman
three-mile course, and won the 1957 Central Collegiate Conference Indoor
Mile with a record time; and
WHEREAS, Following graduation, Rick DiCamillo had a distinguished
20-year career in the United States Air Force where he was awarded eight
Air Medals for missions he completed in Vietnam, including the Distin-
guished Flying Cross in 1969; he retired with the esteemed rank of Lieu-
tenant Colonel, and was later employed at the Pentagon; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents a unique opportunity for
this Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to Rick DiCamillo;
and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to honor Rick DiCamillo for
his extraordinary athletic accomplishments which are a tribute to his
skill, dedication and commitment; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations with
praise and pride to honor Rick DiCamillo upon the occasion of his
induction into the Schenectady City School District Athletic Hall of
Fame; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Rick DiCamillo, and the Schenectady City School District
Athletic Hall of Fame.
