LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Theodore J. Ghorra upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the Community Service Award by the Rota-
ry Club of Verrazano
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities of New York State are
reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those who distin-
guish themselves in their profession and in service to their community;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Theodore J. Ghorra upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Community Service Award by the Rotary Club of Verrazano to be cele-
brated at its Annual Dinner Dance on Friday, May 15, 2015, at the El
Caribe Country Club in Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, Rotary International is dedicated to the development of
fellowship and understanding among business and professional leaders,
the promotion of community-betterment endeavors and of high standards in
business and professional practices, and the advancement of interna-
tional understanding, goodwill and peace; and
WHEREAS, Each year at its Annual Dinner Dance the Rotary Club of
Verrazano proudly honors individuals who exemplify these principles;
Theodore J. Ghorra truly merits such recognition; and
WHEREAS, A Brooklyn native, Theodore J. Ghorra attended Xaverian High
School, and completed his bachelors degree at St. John's University,
before receiving his Juris Doctorate at Brooklyn Law School; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Theodore J. Ghorra is employed as Counsel with
Nixon Peabody LLP, where he regularly represents public and private
companies in corporate, capital markets and finance related matters; and
WHEREAS, Theodore J. Ghorra has been repeatedly named a New York Super
Lawyer, and was recognized by SUPER LAWYER MAGAZINE as a Rising Star in
the field of securities and corporate finance; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to his community, Theodore J. Ghorra has been
called upon to contribute his time and talents to countless civic and
charitable endeavors and has always given of himself unstintingly; he
has volunteered at the Guild For Exceptional Children, Toys for Tots,
Ronald McDonald House, and for the Sloan-Kettering Children's Christmas
Drive; and
WHEREAS, Since 1996, Theodore J. Ghorra has donated palms at Easter,
Christmas Trees, and other holiday flowers to multiple local churches;
he is also the founder of the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony and
fundraiser for St. Anselm's Church, and organized the planting of four
curbside trees at St. Patrick's Church in Brooklyn; and
WHEREAS, In 2014, Theodore J. Ghorra was instrumental in fundraisers
to benefit Targeted Use Proceeds which helped purchase over 30 educa-
tional tablets for students, completed upgrades to school Wi-Fi and
other technologies, and funded the Literacy Program; and
WHEREAS, An avid supporter of youth athletics, Theodore J. Ghorra
coaches the boys and girls swim team of St. Anselm's OLA, and recently
sponsored a day of swim team clinics for swimmers and their families; he
has also coached his son's baseball team and two of his daughters' soft-
ball teams; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Theodore J. Ghorra has provided legal services
pro bono in such areas as Catholic Education, healthcare, and the arts,
and has worked tirelessly through the Safe Harbor Clinic to secure refu-
gee asylum for a Burmese family forced to flee their native country; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Theodore J. Ghorra has stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Theodore J. Ghorra upon the occasion of his designation as recipi-
ent of the Community Service Award by the Rotary Club of Verrazano; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Theodore J. Ghorra.
