LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Firefighter Gerald Jones posthumously
upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition after 50
years of dedicated service to the Hartford Volunteer Fire Department
WHEREAS, The firefighters of New York State are renowned throughout the
Nation; their reputation is synonymous with excellence in the arduous
field of fire protection and prevention; and
WHEREAS, Since the early days of "teapot steamers," the volunteer
firefighter has been the cornerstone of our great Nation's efforts to
spare us from the ravages of fire; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to commend Firefighter Gerald
Jones, posthumously, upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition after 50 years of dedicated service to the Hartford Volun-
teer Fire Department to be celebrated at its annual banquet on Saturday,
May 16, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Gerald "Pete" Jones of Hartford, New York, died on Saturday,
May 2, 2015, at the age of 79; and
WHEREAS, Born on December 9, 1935, Gerald Jones was the son of the
late Floyd and Grace (Waller) Jones; and
WHEREAS, Gerald Jones was a 50 year member of the Hartford Volunteer
Fire Department, as well as a lifetime member of both the Argyle Rescue
Squad and Hartford Fish and Game; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of Hartford Central High School, this esteemed
firefighter received his associate's degree in Mechanical Engineering
from Hudson Valley Community College; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable man also proudly served his country as a
member of the United States Army from 1956 to 1962; and
WHEREAS, Gerald Jones was employed as a machinist at Ciba Geigy in
Queensbury, New York, for nearly 30 years; he was also an avid woodwork-
er and managed Mill Creek Creations; and
WHEREAS, In 1960, Gerald Jones married the former Dorothy Geyer, who
predeceased him in 2003; together, they were the proud parents of three
children, Daniel (Laura), Laura, Mark (Mary Beth), and the loving grand-
parents of five grandchildren, Connor, Dylan, Felicity, Lydia, and Thad-
deus; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his 50 years of distinguished service to the Hart-
ford Volunteer Fire Department, Firefighter Gerald Jones selflessly gave
of his time and energies to help fellow citizens in need; and
WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help others
and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with family
and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need; Gerald
Jones was such a firefighter; throughout his 50 years of devoted
service, this volunteer heroically performed, above and beyond the call
of duty, those responsibilities which define the task of fire
protection; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Firefighter Gerald Jones leaves behind a legacy which will
long endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory
to all he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Firefighter Gerald Jones, posthumously, upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition after 50 years of dedicated service
to the Hartford Volunteer Fire Department; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Firefighter Gerald Jones.
