LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Paul Schmidt upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition for his contributions to the local
German-American community by the Troy German Hall Association
WHEREAS, From time to time, this Legislative Body takes note of certain
individuals that should be recognized for having given their time and
energies to serve the best interests of their communities, and to
publicly acknowledge their service; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to honor Paul Schmidt upon the
occasion of his designation for special recognition for his contrib-
utions to the local German-American Community by the Troy German Hall
Association, which was celebrated at German-American Day on Saturday,
October 4, 2014, at Germania Hall, Troy, New York; and
WHEREAS, German-American Day is a time for celebrating and strengthen-
ing the sense of identity and pride in the contributions of German-
speaking immigrants and their descendants in building this great nation;
and
WHEREAS, Born in 1945, Paul Schmidt was born in Munchen, Germany; he
and his family left Munchen in 1956, and moved to Troy, New York; they
later moved to Colonie, New York; and
WHEREAS, For two years Paul Schmidt attended the Culinary Institute of
America; in 1967, he served his country as a member of the United States
Army, including eight months in Vietnam; and
WHEREAS, Paul Schmidt retired in 2011, after working for 26 years at
Russell Sage College, Troy, New York; and
WHEREAS, For more than two decades, Paul Schmidt has been a dedicated
member of Germania Hall; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Paul Schmidt upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition for his contributions to the local German-American Community
by the Troy German Hall Association; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Paul Schmidt.
