LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Oneida Shushe upon the occasion of being
named an Outstanding Student by the Capital District YMCA on May 14,
2015
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young people within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Oneida Shushe upon the occasion of being named an Outstanding Student by
the Capital District YMCA to be celebrated at its 10th Annual Student
and Educator Awards Breakfast Reception, on Thursday, May 14, 2015, at
the Sarazen Student Union, Siena College, Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, This commendation honors high school students and educators
for their dedication to service in their schools, community, and local
YMCA; and
WHEREAS, Oneida Shushe is currently a senior at Colonie Central High
School; this exceptional young woman is extremely dedicated in giving
back to both her school and her community; and
WHEREAS, For many years, Oneida Shushe has participated in various
volunteer activities, including working at St. Peter's Hospital, William
K. Stanford Town Library, and the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New
York; and
WHEREAS, In her school, Oneida Shushe holds several leadership posi-
tions such as President of both Key Club and Science Club; in addition
she was instrumental in starting a Book Club, the Kindness Club, and the
Bigger Smiles Project; and
WHEREAS, An exceptional student, Oneida Shushe is a member of the
National Honor Society, and an AP Scholar; she is also the recipient of
numerous awards and accolades, including the President's Volunteer
Service Award, and the Winner of the Albany County American Legion
Oratorical Contest; and
WHEREAS, With a sense of civic duty and her commitment to others,
Oneida Shushe represents the best development of the potential which is
inherent in our most precious resource, our youth; and
WHEREAS, This occasion presents an opportunity for this Legislative
Body to wish Oneida Shushe continued success throughout her school years
and beyond; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Oneida Shushe upon the occasion of being named an Outstanding
Student by the Capital District YMCA on May 14, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Oneida Shushe.
