LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Wilder Johnson upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the Outstanding 4-H Member Award by the
4-H Club Program of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Columbia and Greene
Counties

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accordance
with its long-standing traditions, honoring the youth of today, and
leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best exemplify the
ideals and values cherished by this great State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Wilder Johnson upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Outstanding 4-H Member Award by the 4-H Club Program of Cornell Cooper-
ative Extension of Columbia and Greene Counties; and
WHEREAS, The 4-H Club is the nation's largest youth development and
empowerment organization, reaching more than seven million young people
in urban neighborhoods, suburban schoolyards and rural farming communi-
ties; fueled by a university-backed curriculum, 4-H'ers engage in hands-
on learning activities in the areas of science, healthy living, and food
security; and
WHEREAS, The New York State 4-H seeks to foster the development of
leadership ability, life skills, and good citizenship in its young men
and women; it is the only youth development program directly connected
to technological advances and the latest research at Cornell University;
and
WHEREAS, Wilder Johnson, the son of Obie and Nancy Johnson, has been a
4-H member for 12 years as a member of both the Rangers 4-H Club and the
Columbia Teen Ambassadors 4-H Club; he is being recognized for his
strong leadership and excellence in project work; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional young man has enjoyed participation in
several 4-H project areas including foods and nutrition, natural
resources, gardening and expressive arts, and has greatly excelled in
the horse science project; and
WHEREAS, With a deep interest in horse science, Wilder Johnson has
participated in the Horse Bowl for many years, rising to become a member
of the district team and subsequently being awarded the position of
Captain of the New York State Horse Bowl Team; and
WHEREAS, Wilder Johnson's leadership abilities have expanded and grown
through his involvement in 4-H activities; he has participated in a
number of 4-H statewide leadership trips, and has been a member of the
planning team for the state teen leadership retreat for the past two
years; and
WHEREAS, In addition, he is an excellent public speaker, and has done
an outstanding job serving as MC for the 4-H Achievement Night; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to honor Wilder Johnson, a
young man and able scholar, recognizing the value of his labors and the
promise of his future; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Wilder Johnson upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the Outstanding 4-H Member Award, to congratulate him for this
outstanding achievement and to extend to him the best wishes of this
Legislative Body for a future of purposeful success and well-being,
fully confident of his response to a promising future and appreciative
of the model he represents for all aspiring young people of the Empire
State; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Wilder Johnson.
