LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Jacqueline Aparicio upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the Outstanding Student of the Year
Award by the Suffolk Association for Continuing and Community Education
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to take note of those
individuals who have distinguished themselves through their exemplary
pursuit of education as adults; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Jacqueline Aparicio upon the occasion of her designation as recipi-
ent of the Outstanding Student of the Year Award by the Suffolk
Association for Continuing and Community Education, to be celebrated at
its Annual Awards Dinner on Tuesday, June 16, 2015; and
WHEREAS, The Suffolk Association for Continuing and Community Educa-
tion (SACCE) was founded to promote lifelong learning opportunities for
adults within Suffolk County and beyond the county's borders; its
purpose is to advance adult education as a vital factor in adult growth,
development and fulfillment; and
WHEREAS, Through the sharing of resources and ideas with colleagues in
the Nassau Association, and under the umbrella of the New York State
Association, SACCE strives to increase the recognition of and respect
for continuing community education and its professionals; in addition,
it is the goal of the organization to exercise leadership in the advoca-
cy of adult community and continuing education at the local, state and
national levels; and
WHEREAS, A successful, educated professional woman, Jacqueline Apari-
cio sacrificed her career and came to America from Peru in 2010; and
WHEREAS, In 2012, Jacqueline Aparicio entered The Opening Word Program
at Western Suffolk BOCES with limited English proficiency; through her
education and participation in this vital program, she has attained her
citizenship status and her English language skills have profoundly
improved; and
WHEREAS, A truly dedicated student, Jacqueline Aparicio has worked
hard for her achievements; in addition to her studies, she has earned
employment as a pre-school assistant teacher, as well as a position in
retail; and
WHEREAS, Jacqueline Aparicio has become a productive member of the
community and a role model in the classroom for other students; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to commend indi-
viduals of outstanding character, who have shown initiative and commit-
ment toward constantly pursuing higher goals for themselves, and acting
as role models of leadership to be emulated by their peers; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Jacqueline Aparicio upon the occasion of her designation as recip-
ient of the Outstanding Student of the Year Award by the Suffolk Associ-
ation for Continuing and Community Education; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Jacqueline Aparicio.
