LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Carolyn Reilly upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Outstanding Educator of the Year Award
by the Suffolk Association for Continuing and Community Education on
June 16, 2015
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and character
whose endeavors have enhanced the quality of education in the State of
New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Carolyn Reilly upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
Outstanding Educator of the Year Award by the Suffolk Association for
Continuing and Community Education, to be celebrated at its Annual
Awards Dinner on Tuesday, June 16, 2015; and
WHEREAS, The Suffolk Association for Continuing Community Education
(SACCE) was founded to promote lifelong learning opportunities for
adults within Suffolk County and beyond the county's borders; its
purpose is to advance adult education as a vital factor in adult growth,
development and fulfillment; and
WHEREAS, Through the sharing of resources and ideas with colleagues in
the Nassau Association, and under the umbrella of the New York State
Association, SACCE strives to increase the recognition of and respect
for continuing community education and its professionals; in addition,
it is the goal of the organization to exercise leadership in the advoca-
cy of adult community and continuing education at the local, state and
national levels; and
WHEREAS, A dedicated counselor who inspires her students in their
education endeavors and life goals, Carolyn Reilly began her illustrious
career at Western Suffolk BOCES in 2004 as a recruiter; in this capacity
she welcomed students to the center who were looking for a second chance
at life, and assisted in the new data reporting system, NRS, a monthly
attendance report for all literacy classes; and
WHEREAS, Upon graduating from Fordham University with a Bachelor's
degree in Sociology, Carolyn Reilly went on to complete her graduate
studies program in the field of Counseling at C.W. Post Campus of Long
Island University; she is currently enrolled at Stony Brook University
where she is studying School Administration; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn Reilly has been an integral part of the National
External Diploma Project for the past five years; she has been instru-
mental in assessing many students in a program which allows the students
to earn a local high school diploma; and
WHEREAS, In addition to her duties as an assessor, Carolyn Reilly has
conducted orientations and local marketing for the program; her insight
and expertise as a counselor make her an invaluable asset to the
National External Diploma Program as she is able to counsel completed
students with regard to their future educational goals; and
WHEREAS, Educators like Carolyn Reilly provide a tremendous service to
the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of people in
their educational journeys and ensuring their success in their future
years; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn Reilly has clearly had an enduring impact on the
students of Western Suffolk BOCES and the community at large, and
accordingly merits recognition and applause for many impressive years of
dedication to others; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals who work to support our proud tradition of
education by providing their skills and talents to our schools; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Carolyn Reilly upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the Outstanding Educator of the Year Award by the Suffolk Association
for Continuing and Community Education on June 16, 2015; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Carolyn Reilly.
